How to make Money (GHS 1,500+) weekly in Ghana with Uber

I have met a lot of people asking me how to make money with readily available technology here in Ghana. Well, one answer I have mostly not thought about, maybe because it never really occurred to me is Uber.

The truth is that a few drivers I have spoken to who do Uber here in Accra confess they make about GHS 1,500 weekly from Uber when they work full time.

Uber is very profitable in Ghana once you know your way around it. But for beginners, someone may ask: “What is Uber?”.

    What is Uber?

Uber is a technologically-driven taxi company that helps customers hail comfortable taxis from anywhere, using just their smartphone application.

The way Uber operates is actually very simple on the surface. If Kofi wants a ride, he downloads the application (one time) and requests for a ride after registering (also one time). Once he makes his request, the application does all of the calculations and tells Kofi how much the ride is estimated to cost.

After Kofi confirms the trip, the app then matches him to the nearest pre-verified Uber Vehicle available. Kofi chooses which payment method to use, which is mostly cash here in Accra and Kumasi.

Once the ride is completed, Kofi receives his receipt via email.

So how are people making Money through Uber?

The truth is that Uber does not own any vehicles (most people don’t know this). Yes, you heard right. All the vehicles belong to private individuals. Uber provides just the software to connect drivers with riders, and so the company doesn’t own any vehicles.

What happens is that riders pay the money to the driver and Uber charges a percentage of the fee for the use of the software. Here in Ghana, it is somewhere around 25%.

Most people make money on the Uber platform by driving their cars themselves and picking up Uber customers. The more customers and trips, the more money there is to be made. Some rich people also have a fleet of cars and hire drivers to drive these cars.

By using Uber’s Fleet App, they are able to monitor the vehicles and make money as well as pay the individual drivers per the agreed terms.

However, the easiest and most affordable way to make money with Uber is to drive your own car and be your own boss. You can even do this part-time and make some good money.

As a driver on Uber, you are self-employed and as such, you have complete control over what hours you work.  You can adjust your availability to suit you, and the company only sends you customers (riders) during your available hours when you are online on the app.

Who can register as an Uber Partner in Ghana and start making money?

Depending on your status, Uber offers flexibility as to who can register on the network. You can register on the network as:

    • A driver with no access to a vehicle
    • A vehicle owner who wants to drive
    • A vehicle owner planning to employ someone to drive

  • How To Check If The Book You Are Buying Is Approved By NaCCA

How To Check If The Book You Are Buying Is Approved By NaCCA

Do you know whether the book you’re buying is approved by the NaCCA (National Council for Curriculum Assessment) or not? What can you do to make sure that the book you are buying on the market is approved?

If you have been wondering about either of the questions above, this article is going to be very helpful. This is because, in this article, I am going to show you how to check if the book you are buying is approved by the NaCCA.

Education they say, is the key to success; but what will formal education be without textbooks? Since the inception of formal education, textbooks have served as the main reference for both the teachers and the students.

Due to the high demand for textbooks by students in Ghana, several fake publications also write their own books and sell them on the market. Most of these books are not approved by the NaCCA (National Council for Curriculum Assessment).

As a result, if you buy any of these books you do so at your own risk. This is because the content of the book hasn’t been inspected to see whether they correspond with the curriculum or otherwise.

As we can all recall, somewhere around 2019, the Ghana Education Service, the Ministry of Education, and the National Council for Curriculum Assessment decided to revise the curriculum at the time.

This was what led to the introduction of new subjects for primary schools. Some of the newly introduced subjects include Our World Our People, History, Computing (formerly I.C.T), etc.

After the introduction of these new subjects, the NaCCA allowed publishers to submit their books for review and approval. Among the several books that submitted their drafts, only a few got approval from the Ghana Education Service and the National Council for Curriculum Assessment.

All these books have been placed on a database where you can check to see if the book you are buying is among the list of approved books. The process of checking the book is very quick, free of charge and can be done at any time and anywhere.

How To Check If The Book You Are Buying Is Approved By NaCCA

There two (2) main options available if you want to check whether the book you are buying is approved by the NaCCA. The first option is available for the general public and the second option is available for book publishers who want to check whether their books have been approved or not.

How To Check If The Book You Are Buying Is Approved By NaCCA (General Public)

    1. Dial *920*65# on your phone
    2. Select option 1 (the general public)
    3. Enter the ISBN of the book (with or without separators)
    4. Wait for feedback via SMS (this usually takes a few seconds)
    5. This is available for free on all networks and all types of mobile phones.

How To Check If The Book You Are Buying Is Approved By NaCCA (Publishers)

    1. Dial *920*65# on your phone
    2. Select option 1 (a publisher)
    3. Enter the ISBN of the book (with or without separators)
    4. Wait for feedback via SMS (this usually takes a few seconds)
    5. This is available for free on all networks and all types of mobile phones.

    Conclusion

The NaCCA (National Council for Curriculum Assessment) and the Ghana Education Service developed this platform to ensure that the entire Ghanaian citizenry buy only approved textbooks. This way, all the fake books that have not been approved by the NaCCA will be kicked out of the market.

For every Ghanaian to be able to use this platform, it is free of charge and is available on all networks. Therefore, I urge everyone to make good use of this platform to kick out all fake and unapproved books from the market.

  • Things To Consider Before Making Online Payments with Mobile Money

Things To Consider Before Making Online Payments with Mobile Money

Chances are that you’ve ever made a purchase online and paid with Mobile Money here in Ghana.

Also, chances are that you’ve heard of people being scammed through such online Mobile Money payments.

So the big question is; how do you know if it’s okay to pay a seller online or not?

For most of us, we are just fortunate to have completed a number of Mobile Money transactions online without being defrauded.

But how fortunate can you be? And how long will you continue to be fortunate?

In this article, we give you a list of things to look out for before deciding to pay for a product or service online, using Mobile Money.

Things To Consider When Paying With Mobile Money Online

There are a few things you ought to consider before paying for anything online, using Mobile Money so that you don’t end up getting scammed by anyone.

Some of them are listed below.

    Check For Alternative Payment Terms

If you’re going to pay someone you don’t know through an electronic payment system for a product, then you should do your checks well.

Be sure to confirm from the person if there are other payment terms aside from you paying before they deliver to you.

Ask if there’s payment on delivery options available or if they can meet you up somewhere in an open space so you pay and take the item.

If they insist that their only payment option is Payment before Delivery, then you should think through and decide if you want to go for that.

    The Seller’s Reputation

Buying online is not completely a bad idea. In fact, it’s a cool idea since it saves you time and the risks associated with travelling to buy an item somewhere.

But, before you proceed to make payment for an online product, using mobile money, you should consider the reputation of the seller.

You obviously don’t want to pay money to someone without knowing how reputable they are.

For starters, it’s best to buy from sites and sellers who are quite popular and have good customer relation. In fact, it’s advisable to buy from people or sellers whom your friends or relatives have transacted business with in the past.

If for any reason the person is new and hasn’t done any business with anyone you know, check their profile very well, visit their social media handles and confirm how authentic they are.

    Reviews are not always accurate

This one is a pro tip for any online purchase. Reviews are usually not what they seem to be.

Those sweet words put together on products and service pages? Well, they are mostly fake.

People send their links to their friends and accomplices to comment such nice words on their products and services.

So, if you’re going to depend entirely on those reviews to make such payments, then you’re walking wholeheartedly into a death trap and it’ll swallow you nicely!

After checking the reviews, check the spellings, grammatical constructions and other details before giving it a go.

Buy only with as much money as you can afford to lose

Nobody has ever promised that you can buy online without the risk of losing your money.

In fact, the risk is always 50% when you’re buying online. Especially if you’d have to pay before delivery is done.

So, to stomach the risk and be ready for anything that might happen, it’s perfect to only pay as much money as you can afford to lose.

This is not to say you won’t feel hurt, anyway.

But, if you lose GHS 100 to a scammer, the pain is easier than losing GHS 1,000.

So, check through your budget and consider the amount of money you can stake a bet with.

Then spend that same amount anytime you want to buy something online using mobile money.

    Never exceed this limit!

    Conclusion

Business and the Internet are almost inseparable in today’s world. In fact, it’s impossible to separate these two words.

So, most people now tend to buy online even here in Ghana. Buying online comes with its own hurdles – especially in terms of security.

In this article, we spoke about some things to consider when making mobile money payment for items purchased online.

We hope you loved the content of this article and that it was helpful to you.

  • How To Register For MTN Business Mobile Money Account

How To Register For MTN Business Mobile Money Account

Mobile Money is a pre-requisite for every business in Ghana today. It is the most widely-used payment method in Ghana.

Even the Waakye seller who plies her trade in a blue kiosk at Zongo Junction also accepts Mobile Money payments.

Literally, there’s nowhere in Ghana that Mobile Money payments are not accepted or allowed.

As such, businesses that are yet to incorporate this payment system in their daily transactions, are at the brink of extinction.

What most businesses don’t know is that they can acquire a Mobile Money account for their business and not necessarily use a personal account for such transactions.

The ultimate question is; why should I go for a business account instead?

In this article, we take you through the reasons for which you should acquire a Mobile Money Business Account and how to get one.

Why You Should Use A Mobile Money Business Account

There are a few profitable reasons why you should choose to have a Mobile Money Business account for your business.

Some of them are listed below:

    No Charges On Transfers

Irrespective of the amount involved, MTN charges no money on Transfers made to or from Business accounts.

This means that your customers can make payments to you, without worrying about the charges that will accompany such payments.

In fact, this will even encourage more people to buy from you since they don’t have to go through the hustle of withdrawing money to buy from you.

    Higher Payment Limits

Depending on the volume of transactions you do daily and the tier you’re on, MTN has limits on MOMO transactions.

These limitations come in the form of daily limits, monthly limits and overall account balance limit.

As is the case, normal personal Mobile Money accounts tend to have lower limits. Some accounts have their daily limits set at GHS 2,000 while others have theirs set at GHS5,000.

But with the Business account, you can expect your limit to be somewhere upwards of GHS 10,000. Though this figure is not fixed for all accounts, the limits are generally higher than that of the personal accounts.

    Monthly Commission On Transactions

Once you own a Business account, you qualify to receive monthly commissions based on the total volume of transactions you perform monthly.

This commission also pertains to those with personal Mobile Money accounts, however, the percentage for those with Business Mobile Money accounts is relatively higher than those with personal accounts.

Secondly, since yours is a business account and your transaction limits are higher, it’s only right that you’ll get a higher volume of monthly transactions – which translates into higher commissions for you.

How To Register For a Business Account

To register for a business account, you need to follow the steps below:

    1. Dial *5051# on your mobile phone
    2. Select ‘Register’ from the list which pops up
    3. Select your region of residence
    4. Wait for a moment to receive an SMS confirming your registration. A reference number will be included in the SMS.
    5. An MTN Mobile Money agent will be assigned to inspect your location
    6. After successfully passing the inspection phase, you’ll need to download and fill the Merchant Recruitment form, the Merchant Account Holder Form and the Merchant Agreement form.

You can download the forms here.

After going through all these processes successfully, you should be ready to use your MOMO Business Sim card now.

It should take roughly 3 days for it to be ready in most cases.

    Conclusion

With how widespread the Mobile Money service has become in Ghana, it’s quite unreal for any business to afford not to include it in its payment methods.

But, choosing the right Mobile Money account to use is very important for every business owner.

In this article, we spoke about why you need a Mobile Money Business Account for your business and how to register for one of such accounts.

We hope that you loved the content of this article and you found it helpful.

  • Why 2020 BECE Placements is likely to be released before February ends

Why 2020 BECE Placements is likely to be released before February ends

Confirmed: BECE 2020 Placements will be released on Sunday, 28th February 2021.

So in the last three weeks there have been a lot of chatter about when the Ghana Education Service (GES) will release the 2020 School Placements.

Although the placements were scheduled to be released last Sunday, it appears that hitches have prevented that from becoming a reality.

Mfidie.com has already reported that in the interim, GES is setting up Placement Call Centers to tackle all issues that may come up after the release of the Placements for students who wrote last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination.

However, there is a strong indication that the placements will be released before this month ends. We have come to this likelihood based on publicly available information by GES.

Reasons why BECE Placements will likely be released in February 2021

Placement Call Centers are rapidly being set up

GES has also stated that, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the usual going to the Black Star Square and other regional GES offices to solve placement issues will not hold.

At the moment, GES’ Technical team is at work to ensure that the GES call Center runs effectively and efficiently to receive and solve Placement related issues.

Per the speed at which the placement call center has been set up and the frequency of the updates, it is safe to say that GES is working towards releasing the placements this month.

This is because the placements will have to be released before the ca

    GES’ own Press Release

The last Press release by the Ghana Education Service explicitly stated that the 2020 placements will be released “soon”.

The introduction the the release stated that “The Ghana Education Service (GES) informs the general public that it is preparing sufficiently to release the Computerized School Placement soon.”

By this, we can be assured that the placements will come at a very soon date, possibly before February ends.

Time to Report to Senior High School

Recently in an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Director General of the GES was quoted as saying: “Usually we give them some three weeks to prepare to go to school and we wanted to keep to that”.

Barring any changes, SHS 1 students or first year senior high students are to report to Campus on 10th March 2021.

Three weeks before 10th March is the later stages of the month of February.

The GES would want students to adequately prepare before arriving at school so it is very likely the placements will come before the month of February ends.

How to prepare for school while waiting for placements

    • Get in touch with a Placements Card Seller so you can be among the first people to check – You can send them a WhatsApp message or Kindly call 0555475811 for inquiries.
    • Start buying things for school
    • Make a budget for the first term/year at school
    • Follow GES and other credible sources of information on the 2020 SHS School Placement

You can read more on how to prepare for school while waiting for the BECE Placements.

    Conclusion

Although it can seem very frustrating waiting to know which school you have been placed in, it is worth the wait if most of the problems associated with the CSSPS are going to be non existent this time around.

Beware of fake websites giving fake dates for the placement. Stick to the official GES platforms and be on the watch out for the release.

  • GES gives hope on when 2020 BECE Placements will be released for all

GES gives hope on when 2020 BECE Placements will be released for all

According to a Press Release by the Ghana Education Service, they are still preparing to release the 2020 Placements for BECE candidates who are looking to enter into SHS.

The statement signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the GES, Cassandra Twum Ampofo also said that call centers are going to be set up to attend to all placement-related issues.

Although Students and their Guardians were hoping that the placements will be released on 21st February 2020, that didn’t happen.

Also, take note of fraudsters who are using the opportunity to sell fake checkers to others. Don’t fall a MUGU to them. Wait for GES to release the results.

    Start buying things for school

First off, make sure you are enrolled on the National Health Insurance scheme with an active subscription, otherwise, renew your NHIS on your phone as soon as possible.

You need to start buying all the things needed for Senior High School. You need to do this fast because once placements are out, all the prices are going to shoot up.

Items that SHS students need to buy to school include a chop box, mattress, boarding shirts, some books and footwear.

These are items that all SHS in Ghana take as part of their prospectus.

Make a budget for first term/year at school

As a parent, you need to make sure that your ward has all the financial support they can receive while they are in school. It will be useful to have savings set aside for each term for all their needs.

This usually comes after you have bought everything needed for school.

Follow GES and other credible sources of information on the 2020 SHS School Placement

Also, remember to follow credible sources when the school placement comes out. You can send us a WhatsApp now and we will alert you when the placement drops.

Also keep checking the official GES handles as they will announce once the placements are out.
