Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 – Best Features

Samsung is going for the smartwatch crown for Android with a few quirks it has the potential.

Samsung has made many smartwatches and through all that experience the company has refined its Tizen software so much that it has completely ditched Google’s Wear OS.

The Galaxy watch 3 is the latest effort to keep up with reigning smartwatch competitor Apple, introducing familiar features like fall detection and ECG. Samsung also improves their sleep tracking to perform faster than Apple. The hallmark physical rotating bezel is still a superior way to navigate a smartwatch. Watch 3 is priced at $400.

    Galaxy Watch 3

    Design

The Galaxy Watch 3 is noticeably lighter and slimmer which doesn’t feel as overwhelming. Its stainless-steel case is shinier and classier than the Galaxy Watch active 2, although its underside is noticeably chunkier.

There is also a bump in between the two buttons on the right side that prevents them from accidentally being pressed.

    Features

The Galaxy Watch 3’s new features revolve around making it a better health and fitness companion, the upcoming ECG tool along with the new blood pressure readings helps provide more insight to your overall health but these are pending a software update and regulatory approval.

    Running Coach

Samsung’s not the first company to provide real-time audio and visual feedback on your jog but the latest wearables from apple & Fitbit don’t offer this.

Additionally, Samsung is doing it for free which is rare after selecting a goal from options like light running, calorie-burning, and speed endurance, you can start your running. The light mode guides you through four stages at gradually increasing speeds and the watch buzzes to tells you to either slow down or speed up to hit the targets.

The watch would say things like great pace, keep up this pace or think positively you’re getting closer to your goal with every step which’s meant to be encouraging but delivered in its robotic voice.

Galaxy Watch 3 shows a more comprehensive analysis for running than other workouts with average heart rate, session duration, and calories burned, you’ll see feedback on your symmetry, contact time, flight time, stiffness, and regularity with advice on what areas you need to improve.

You get more guidance like suggested drills and charts showing your cadence and pace when you view your session in the Samsung Health app on your phone, A feature that will be appreciated by exacting athletes.

    galaxy watch 3

    Sleep Tracking

Samsung updated the watch 3’s sleep tracking to use the heart rate monitor and accelerometer data which is a very similar approach to Fitbit and uses the info to estimate how much time you spend in zones like Rem, light sleep, deep sleep, or when you are awake.

Samsung will count the time you spend to sleep and other factors like restlessness to assign you a score.

    Health Tracking

Tizen OS health tracking outshines Wear OS and Fitbit OS,

it offers a helpful widget for tracking your food and water intake, stress tracking with guided breathing to help you relax and prompt easy exercises when ideal for 1hrs.

Heart rate monitor to check your heartbeat and Blood Oxygen reading to access your health using pores, temperature, blood pressure, and respiratory rate

    Fall Detection

In life-threatening situations, Watch 3 can determine when you fall in to get help or you can push the home button on the right side three times to call your emergency contacts and share your location with them to.

    Sync

One of Samsung’s smartwatch strengths at least against competitors like Fitbit and Garmin is how it syncs with your phone.

Tizen is far better equipped at handling things like replying to messages, controlling your music, summoning an Uber, or controlling your smart home.

When you receive a message, the watch will show some of the exchange before it so you can get some context for your conversation. Pictures and messages also show up in notifications which is something the Fitbit and Garmin’s don’t offer.

If you want to, you can also use the Samsung watch to call your friends and the onboard mic will make you sound clear. The speakers are loud enough to hear over some light background noise too.

    Conclusion

Watch 3 has a robust and well-rounded set of features. With the Galaxy Watch 3, Samsung easily holds onto the title of the best smartwatch for Android users.

An honour held for the past two years.

    Features of Samsung A10s

    Design and Display

Samsung’s Galaxy A10s has a big screen size of 6.2 inch infinity-V display with a 720 x 1560 display resolution. The Samsung Galaxy A10s is a TFT (IPS) technology display, a capacitive touchscreen with a multi-touch feature.

Still on the screen, there is a V-cutout that houses the 8 megapixels camera and the screen is scratch resistant according to Samsung.

The phone itself comes in a plastic body and has dimensions of 75.8 x 156.9 x 7.8 mm.

The Samsung A10s not waterproof like many will expect but that’s not so surprising considering the price tag of GHS 729 attached to the phone.

The phone is available in the following colours:

    • Black
    • Blue
    • Red and
    • Green

    Hardware and Software

Samsung’s Galaxy A10s is powered by a mediaTek Helio P22 (MT6762) chipset with two quad-core processors clocked at 2.0 GHz and 1.5GHz respectively.

This means you can run and resume most apps on the device without any or very minimal lag.

When it comes to gaming, the phone’s graphics are processed by a PowerVR GE8320 dual-core GPU.

With this combination, you should be able to do a lot of multitasking and with the 2GB of RAM, good normal usage of the phone should not give you any issues.

There is also 32GB of space which does not seem like much nowadays, but if you backup most of your photos to Google Photos, you shouldn’t have issues at all.

However, if you want to keep things offline, you can take advantage of the microSD memory card slot which can take up to 512 GB.

The A10s also features sensors for proximity, light, fingerprint, and accelerometer.

    Camera

The Samsung Galaxy A10s has a total of three cameras, a slight improvement over the A10 that it has come to replace.

The front of the phone houses a single 8MP selfie camera while there are two cameras at the back of the smartphone.

There is both a 13MP camera and a new 2MP depth sensor camera. The cameras on the rear of the phone support autofocus, HDR, Panorama, and 1080p resolution video recording.

You can expect to take very beautiful photos on this camera and have a nice bokeh (blurred background) effect when you select the portrait mode.

The dual-LED flash at the rear of the Camera also provides enough illumination when you want to take pictures in dark environments.

    Battery

The Samsung Galaxy A10S comes out of the box with a non-removable Li-Po 4,000 mAh battery.

This should be enough to carry through the day on moderate use. However, if you are a heavy gamer, you will need to add a few extra charges during the day.

The phone does not support wireless charging but it compensates for that with it’s fast-charging capability..

    Network and Connectivity

If you are looking to browser faster, the the Samsung Galaxy A10s is what you need. The smartphone is a 4G phone, and can function on the 2G, and 3G networks too for all those who don’t have 4G access..

Other networks connectivity mechanisms are Wi-Fi, hotspot, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, FM radio, micro USB 2.0, and the headphone jack and other components.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Features Explained

    Design & Display

The Note 9 comes with a 6.4 inch super AMOLED display. This is arguably the best display in the world right now. The display on the Note 9 is slightly bigger than that on last year’s Note 8 but the two phones seem to be of the same size.

However, the Note 9 is slightly shorter and wider. It also weighs a little more: 201g vs. 195g. The Infinity display is bright and has 18.5: 9 aspect ratio.

The Note 9 comes with two features that are missing in many flagships these days: a microSD card slot and headphone jack. Samsung Note 9 is IP68 certified (water and dustproof).

Another feature that is present in the Note 9 that is lacking in the iPhone X, Oppo find X and a few other flagships is a fingerprint scanner. This smartphone also has face unlock feature and an iris scanner. The fingerprint scanner is centrally placed at the back. The Note 8 has a fingerprint scanner on the rear but its off-center, something that most people don’t like.

    Hardware, Software & Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 chipset supported with either 6GB of RAM or 8GB of RAM. The 6GB RAM variant comes with 128GB on-board storage while the 8GB RAM version comes with 512GB onboard storage.

This phone supports microSD cards of up to 512GB. This means that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is the first phone that allows up to 1TB storage space.

Samsung Note 9 runs on Android Oreo with Samsung Experience software on top. Obviously, Samsung will provide and upgrade to Android Pie.

    Cameras

The Note 9 comes with the same rear camera profile of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. It features dual 12MP rear cameras utilizing the dual aperture technology.

This means that the rear camera can switch from an f/2.4 aperture in well-lit environments to the f/1.5 aperture when it’s being used in low light areas. The rear shooter can capture pretty impressive photos in the darkest of places.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is one of the very best camera phones in the world right now. The rear camera has a host features including Optical Image Stabilization and 2x optical zoom. There are up to 20 different camera settings including Portraits, Flowers, Food, Sky, Mountains, Trees, Sunsets and Sunrises, Snow, Waterfalls, Birds, Street scenes, Beaches etc.

The selfie camera on the Galaxy Note 9 is 8MP. This camera captures pretty decent photos too. It is the first Samsung Galaxy Note front camera with Autofocus. The camera app is amazing and provides an array of options including wide group selfies, array stickers, slow-motion videos etc.

    Battery & Extras

The Note 9 comes with a larger battery than the Note 8: 4000mAh vs 3500mAh. This phone supports fast charging and wireless charging. Samsung promises a day long battery life to heavy users. If you are moderate user, you use this phone for up to two days on a single charge.

    The S Pen

Samsung Note 9 comes with a Stylus S pen that is nothing like what we have seen before. The S pen is Bluetooth enabled and it can be used for a lot of tricks.

This S Pen can connect to the phone when its 9 meters away. You can use the S pen stylus to:

    • Remotely launch the camera app
    • Take photos & record videos remotely
    • Control the music player (Previous/Next)
    • Advancing to next/previous photo when using the photo gallery.

Pricing and Availability of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 in Ghana

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 sells for GHS 4,800.

  • 5 reasons why Samsung’s new Galaxy S9 is better than the iPhone X

5 reasons why Samsung’s new Galaxy S9 is better than the iPhone X

During this year’s MWC, Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagship phones. The new S9 and S9+ flagship phones are not just better than their predecessors, the S8 and S8+, but they’re also better than every other handset on the planet, including the iPhone X.

So the guys at BGR have this to share:

We’ll pit the iPhone X against Samsung’s latest and greatest in a number of different ways once we get our hands on review units. Of course, we’ve already spent plenty of time with the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, so in this post, we’ll take a look at five ways these hot new Android phones are better than Apple’s iPhone X.

    Camera

Apple’s iPhone X has one of the best cameras currently available on any smartphone. When photographing well-lit scenes, the iPhone X is capable of producing truly incredible results. It also has the best low-light performance of any iPhone Apple has ever released.

We’ve only spent a few hours with the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ at this point, but we can already safely say it’s one of the best camera phones the world has ever seen. We’ll reserve our final judgement for our review, but it’s quite possibly the best, period.

Early results from our testing suggest that photos captured on the Galaxy S9 are substantially better than similar photos captured on the iPhone X. This is true of images shot in good lighting conditions, but even more so of photos captured in low light. The Galaxy S9’s dual apertures make a huge difference in both scenarios, as does the dedicated DRAM chip. We found that noise at full zoom was substantially reduced in photos taken on the Galaxy S9 compared to iPhone X photos.

We’re definitely looking forward to spending time with this camera.

    Display

This is another area where we’ll need to spend more time with the Galaxy S9 before we declare it the outright winner over Apple’s iPhone X. As a reminder, the iPhone X features an OLED display manufactured by Samsung and tuned by Apple. Thanks to that tuning, experts have said that the iPhone X’s display is even better than any screen found on a Samsung phone.

While the overall winner remains to be named, there are two areas where we can already say Samsung has the edge over Apple.

The first is a matter of opinion: the Galaxy S9 has no notch. Some people, myself included, like the cutout at the top of Apple’s iPhone X display. It adds a unique design

    https://twitter.com/zacharye/status/907962442692440071?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fbgr.com%2F2018%2F02%2F27%2Fgalaxy-s9-vs-iphone-x-specs-top-5-features%2F

That said, there’s no question that the notch disrupts the user experience in several scenarios. Viewing photos and videos is particularly bad — you can either view them with a big chunk taken out of the size, or you can reduce the size so you’re no longer taking advantage of the phone’s entire display. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ have no notch, of course, so this isn’t an issue.

The second area where the Galaxy S9 is a clear winner over the iPhone X is the screen-to-body ratio. Smartphone makers are battling to be the first to produce an all-screen smartphone. In fact, some companies like Apple already claim to have an all-screen smartphone. Of course, that’s a flat-out lie.

    The screen-to-body ratio on Apple’s iPhone X is about 82.9%. That means Apple’s “all-screen” iPhone is 17.1% not-screen. The screen-to-body ratio on Samsung’s Galaxy S9 is 84.2%, which means it’s more all-screen than Apple’s all-screen iPhone.

    AR Emoji

Samsung’s new AR Emoji feature is a blatant rip-off of Apple’s Animojis, which were introduced last year on the iPhone X. But there’s one feature that Samsung added to its offering that Apple hasn’t yet managed, and it’s actually pretty needed. Hilariously enough, it’s also something that was rumoured to be coming to the iPhone X ahead of its launch last year, and that might be why Samsung added it to AR Emoji.

Animoji and AR Emoji are features that let you select a character from a stable of options, and then send animations as that character. The user looks at the phone and speaks his or her message, and the character acts it out, mirroring things like facial expressions and mouth movements.

Apple’s Animoji feature is much, much better at tracking the user. There’s also far less lag with Apple’s solution. But Samsung’s AR Emoji feature includes a cool option you won’t find on any iPhone: you can make a 3D character out of yourself. Simply scan your face and the S9 creates a digital character with your likeness. Then you can send animations of yourself in more than a dozen different scenes.

    Plus

At 5.8 inches, Apple’s iPhone X display is fairly large on paper. But because the phone has a narrow aspect ratio of 19.5:9, and because of the notch, the screen doesn’t actually have as much surface as its diagonal measurement suggests. In fact, the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus actually has more screen surface than the 5.8-inch iPhone X.

Samsung’s 5.8-inch Galaxy S9 has an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, so it already has more surface than the iPhone X. But some people want and even larger display, and that’s where the 6.2-inch Galaxy S9+ comes in. There is no iPhone X Plus, unfortunately, though Apple will reportedly release a plus-sized iPhone X successor later this year.

    Headphone jack

This is one of those areas where some people care and some people don’t. I, for one, don’t care. I cut the cord and switched to Bluetooth headphones years ago, long before Apple ditched the headphone jack on the iPhone 7. Many, many other people have done the same. But there are still plenty of people out there who prefer to use wired headphones, perhaps so they don’t have to worry about charging yet another device.

There’s certainly nothing wrong with that… unless you’re an iPhone user. If that’s the case, then you’ll have to use the 3.5mm to Lightning adapter Apple includes in the box with each iPhone. Or, if you want to listen and charge at the same time without using a wireless charger, you’ll need a third-party splitter.

Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ have dedicated 3.5mm headphone jacks, so none of this is an issue.

The new Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+: All you need to know about

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are now official as the company showcased the two new phones in Barcelona, ahead of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. Samsung’s new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will compete against the iPhone X and Google Pixel 2 series. With these new phones, the focus is on the camera. Samsung has not tinkered much with the design of the Galaxy S9 series, though it has reduced the bezels even further on the new phones.

The big change though is the Galaxy S9’s camera with Samsung introducing a super-slow-motion video option, and new dual-aperture feature to ensure the best low-light performance. Samsung has also gone with the Apple approach and limited the dual-rear camera feature to the bigger Galaxy S9+ variant rather than introducing it on both phones.

    What’s new on Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+

Animoji, Dual Speakers, New Position for the Fingerprint Sensor

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will also come with a new AR Emoji feature, which is the company’s own take on Animoji seen in iPhone X and Bitmoji, a well-known app. Samsung’s AR Animoji will scan the user’s face and create a cartoon version of them, which can then be shared on SMS, third-party apps like WhatsApp, etc. There will be 18 different expressions that a user can send, says Samsung. AR Animoji will let users customise the skin tone, clothes, etc of their character as well.

The Galaxy S9 will also come with dual-stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos surround sound capabilities to offer a much more immersive audio experience. The Galaxy S9 series continues with a 3.5-mm headphone jack as well and are IP68 water and dust-resistant. Samsung has also shifted the fingerprint scanner below the camera module and the face and iris scan feature is also present on both phones.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ come with better cameras

For the camera, the Galaxy S9 comes with dual aperture feature, which is f/1.5 and f/2.4 for low light and daylight performance. Samsung says this technology allows for 28 percent more light to enter the sensor compared to the Galaxy S8 series. However, there is no ‘Bokeh’ style feature on the smaller Galaxy S9. In contrast, the Galaxy S9+ has dual cameras on the back with dual OIS and allows for the ‘Bokeh’ feature.

Samsung Galaxy S9+ camera is 12MP +12MP with dual OIS on the back. The wide-angle 12MP sensor has F/1.5 and F/2.4 aperture while the telephoto lens is also 12MP with f/2.4 aperture. The front camera on both phones is 8MP with f/1.7 aperture. Both Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will support super slow mode at 960 frames per second. When it comes to the slow motion feature, Samsung will automatically detect motion and alert user when the slow motion aspect has been recorded. Users will then have the option of adding background music to their slo-mo videos or they can convert them into GIFs for easy sharing. These videos can also be set as wallpaper on the Galaxy S9.

Battery on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+

For the battery, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ continue with the same size as the previous S8, which is 3000 mAh and 3500 mAh respectively. The new phones are powered by Android 8.0 Oreo with TouchWiz UI on top. Samsung has also introduced some new features to the Bixby camera. This is Samsung’s own virtual assistant. Bixby will now support live translation via the camera. A user can just point the camera to a sign or text written in a different language and it will be translated to whichever one they prefer. The Bixby camera can also be used to now point at food and it will tell how many calories are there in a particular item.

Samsung is also continuing with the DeX pad for the Galaxy S9 series and has introduced a new one for the flagship phones. This allows for a desktop-like experience from the Galaxy S9 by plugging it to the DeX pad and connecting it to a desktop monitor. Samsung will support Full HD and 2K monitors as well.

Processing Power on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+

On the specifications front, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be powered by the Exynos 9810 octa-core processor in international markets, which includes Ghana. In the US, the phones will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor. The RAM/Storage specifications for Galaxy S9 are 4GB RAM with 64GB/128GB/256GB, while Galaxy S9+ has the following specifications 6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB. The colour variants of the Galaxy S9 are Black, Blue, Titanium Gray and new Lilac Purple version.

    Conclusion

The Galaxy S9 is a great evolution of the Galaxy S8 design. On the surface, it looks very similar to its predecessor, but under the hood, the improvements of the Camera system, the computing power, and the broadband communications quality are drastic and true next-generation features.

In addition to the hardware changes, Samsung did focus on real use cases that matter to people. Again the S9 camera sets the bar for 2018 with an extreme low-light performance along with slow-motion for all.
