There’s no doubt that the premier mid-range smartphones the CAMON 18 Premier and CAMON 17 Pro smartphones are quite captivating in their own rights, even though one comes with the Premier tag and the other the Pro-tag. To the tech-heads or potential buyers who would like to differentiate or make a firm decision about which device to buy among these two, then this article is for you.
Let’s kick things off with the specifications of these two smartphones and then move to other amazing categories.
Both CAMON 18 Premier and CAMON 17 Pro look pretty similar but there are major differences. At the front, they both have thinner bezels with a screen size of 6.7 inches for the CAMON 18 Premier and 6.8 inches for CAMON 17 Pro. Also, they both have a punch-hole camera, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, that doubles as a power button, and a well-built polycarbonate frame flattened around the edges on CAMON 18 Premier but curved around the edges on CAMON 17 Pro.
At the back, the CAMON 18 Premier has an aesthetically designed AGC silk glass back that houses a triple camera setup with a rounded quad-camera while CAMON 17 Pro has a quad-camera setup with a rectangular quad flash housed in a polycarbonate glossy finish. Both devices are forgiving when it comes to smudges.
Display
Both of these phones have very compelling displays. The CAMON 18 Premier has a 6.7 inches AMOLED display, with a 120Hz screen refresh rate and an impressive touch sampling rate of 240Hz. This would definitely come in handy when gaming. While the CAMON 17 Pro has a 6.7 inches IPS display with a 90Hz screen refresh rate and a 180Hz touch sampling rate.
Both devices have excellent displays with bright and vivid colors, easy to see under the sun, fluid transition, and animations but the CAMON 18 Premier has the needed advantage over the CAMON 17 Pro.
Software and Performance
When it comes to software, the CAMON 18 Premier is powered by the latest chipset from MediaTek, the Helio G96 chipset with HiOS 8.0 based on Android 11 whiles CAMON 17 Pro comes with MediaTek’s Helio G95 chipset with HiOS 7.6 based on Android 11. It’s no secret, both devices would be upgraded to Android 12 soon!
In terms of performance, both phones live up to the hype with outstanding features from HiOS. They both are amazingly fast and fluid. With 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of ROM, there’s no room for lag; keeping you immersed in the exciting world of entertainment.
Camera
The CAMON Series is known for its outstanding camera prowess and this time around, it’s no different, both smartphones live up to expectations but due to software and lens differences, the resulting output for these two devices may differ with a significant upgrade in performance to the CAMON 18 Premier.
The CAMON 18 Premier took a different turn, with a triple camera setup, consisting of a 64-megapixel lens with a quad flash. It is also accompanied by a 12MP stabilized gimbal camera with a widened frame, and an 8MP periscope telephoto lens, which is able to travel as far as the moon in photography whiles its predecessor, the CAMON 17 Pro, comes with a 64MP quad rear camera with a quad flash, consisting an 8MP wide-angle lens, 2MP bokeh and 2MP monochrome lens for those perfect black and white shots.
In good lighting, both phones shoot good and vivid images. Interestingly, both smartphones have device-specific features such as Super Moon and 60X Hybrid Zoom for CAMON 18 Premier, whiles CAMON 17 Pro has a Monochrome Mode. But they all have various fun photo enhancing features for photography enthusiasts including the Night Portrait Video, Film Master, Portrait Video Bokeh, AR Shot, Super Night, AI Portrait, Time Lapse, Slow Motion, AI Beautification among many others.
For selfies, there is a 32MP front-facing punch hole camera with an adjustable dual flash for CAMON 18 Premier and 48 MP for CAMON 17 Pro. They both take those clear and vivid pictures we all love.
Battery
With an enormous battery capacity on both devices, (4,750mAh on CAMON 18 Premier and 5000mAh on CAMON 17 Pro) you are sure of an all-day battery life. Additionally, you are not left waiting for your phone to charge; with 33W Flash Charge for CAMON 18 Premier and 25W Flash Charge for CAMON 17 Pro, you can juice up your device in less than an hour.
Price
The recommended retail price for CAMON 18 Premier is GH₵ 2060 and GH₵ 1625 for CAMON 17 Pro. Of course, there is a big difference between prices and that simply has to do with major improvements in terms of hardware and software when it comes to CAMON 18 Premier.
Many fans of the TECNO Brand will be excited to know that the Camon Series is back with the new TECNO Camon 18 Premeir. The TECNO Camon series are generally a heavy camera-focused line from the rising Chinese phone maker.
However, in recent times, the devices have not just been your typical “master of the camera game”, they have added a lot of performance improvements as evident in the TECNO Camon 16 Premier which was released and accepted widely in spite of the pandemic last year.
What’s facsinating about the Camon 18 Premier is the Ultra-steady Gimbal Camera technology that TECNO has introduced into it.
According to TECNO, the 12MP Stabilized Gimbal Camera (part of a 3 camera rear camera set-up on the device) can take care of all “strong video shake and blurred images” so you can enjoy shooting ultra clear and stable videos.
Before looking at all the features that the device brings forward, let’s look at the specifications of the device.

Rear Camera
64 MP main sensor + 12 MP Stabilized Gimbal Camera + 8 MP Periscope Telephoto
As with any of the older Camon series, the camera is the main talking point of this device. The device itself comes with 4 cameras in total.
These are:
Front: a 32MP Front Camera with Dual Flash
Rear: a 64 MP main sensor + a 12 MP Stabilized Gimbal Camera + a 8 MP Periscope Telephoto
This setup gives the device the chance to do amazing stuff. First is what TECNO calls a 60X Hyper Zoom. This is actually a 5X optical zoom and 12X digital zoom. This zoom zoom is complemented with TECNO’s own proprietary AI TAIVOS technology. You should expect a little blur when you zoom in on photos taken past the 5X zoom but that should not be much of an issue.
Also, the camera has some wonderful night mode, especially for videos taken in the portrait mode. The general night mode of the camera also utilises algorithms to automatically activate when the night is detected.
And when it’s night, TECNO says the device can help you capture images of the moon, which is referred to as the “Super Moon”. Here, the Camon 18 Premier is utilising mother company – Transsion’s own Galileo algorithm engine.
Battery
Who wouldn’t want to keep using their phone without worrying about loss of juice, especially when elecricity is sometimes unpredictable? Well, the TECNO Camon 18 Premier makes an improvement over the 16 Premier in the battery department with it’s 4750 mAh battery.
The Camon 18 Premier is also capable of 33W Flash charge (fast charging) which means you don’t have to worry much to charge it overnight, and should you forget it charge it, you only need a few minutes to get it back on track. According to TECNO’s marketing, you can get the device charged to 64% in just 30 minutes. This is an improvement from earlier devices.
Performance
Earlier, I wrote about how TECNO’s Camon series have been taking performance serious in recent releases. The Camon 18 Premier is not exception in this case, shipping with Mediatek’s latest Helio G96 chip with an Octa core CPU.
This chip ensures that performance-wise, the TECNO Camon 18 should not fail you in your day to day activities.
You should also be able to run a lot of your games at performance level settings. Moreover, the G96 has very good 4G even for your dual sim setup. You should be able to enjoy fast internet too whether you are on SIM 1 or SIM 2.
Design and Display
Design-wise, the TECNO Camon 18 looks flat and because of it’s thinner form, is easy to hold up in the hands. I am perosnally not a fan of branding at the back of devices, however, TECNO has kept the branding minimalistic this time, maybe adding up to the design.
The Camon 18 Premier comes in 3 colours:
Dusk Gray
Ceramic White
Iris Purple
The dot-in display also does well to give the user a lot of screen real estate so videos and other full screen apps can be enjoyed very well.
The screen itself supports 120hz, thanks to the G96 chipset. The 120hz support means gaming will be much smoother and scrolling will feel seamless. However, TECNO gives the option to turn of 120hz if you feel you don’t need it, giving you bigger gains in the battery field. This, I feel is very good.
Software
Android 11 is what the TECNO Camon 18 ships with, and TECNO is promising an upgrade to Android 12 soon. However, the big part of the software will be TECNO’s own HiOS.
With HiOS 8 on the Camon 18 Premier, there are more software features like real-time weather, added data security, smart card, phone cloner and a voice changer. Lots of fun.
Price of the TECNO Camon 18 Premier in Ghana
The TECNO Camon 18 Premier is retailing at GHS 2060 across all phone retail shops in Ghana. Check this space as we will update constantly with the best deals.
It’s been a while since TECNO released the Spark 7p and I have been using it for close to three weeks. As someone who loves to “demand” a lot from the performance of devices, I kept in mind that the Spark series are entry level devices.
Over the last three weeks however, I have been amazed by how well the Spark 7p performs if held by the entry level standards.
What’s more, some of my friends who used the device have also held similar views especially in the areas of gaming and battery life.
Today, I want to explore with you some of the reasons why you should get the Spark 7p if you are looking for a budget device that performs well too.
Let’s get into it.
Good Gaming Experience
Everyone loves to game on their smartphones nowadays. The Spark 7p can comfortably play some of the most popular Android games at normal graphic settings. Games like NBA2K20, Asphalt 8 and 9, PUBG, and Call of Duty Mobile all play at good speeds with very minimal frame drops.
So if you are looking for an affordable device to play your games with, the Spark 7p is definitely a good starting point. Check out a full gaming test of the Spark 7p below.
Great Battery Life
The Spark 7p really has a good battery life when you are using it and not just on paper as you would find on some other devices in this range. The device comes with a 5000mAh capacity battery which in itself is good.
So when gaming for about 30 minutes intense, you only have about 5% to 8% drop in the battery life as seen in the video above.
Also, with normal use with Instagram, Telegram, Facebook, Phoenix Browser, Chrome Browser, Spotify and some gaming (Sonic Dash), the battery was still able to last me a full day and over.
On one particular day, I forgot to charge the phone and stepped out of home with a 17% battery. By using the Ultra Battery Saver mode, I still had 11% battery remaining when I returned home later. As with all devices, you need to pick up some good battery-saving habits to even enjoy longer battery life.
Budget Friendly
Everyone buys a phone that is within their budget. So when a budget phone comes around offering a lot more than basic features, then it is worth considering.
The TECNO Spark 7p is selling on the market now in Ghana and selling for GHS 750 for the 64GB + 4GB variant and GHS 895 for the 128GB + 4GB variant.
Well, some might say the price is too steep to be called budget. However, when you look at the prices of phones nowadays, this is as affordable as it gets for a device that can be used for 2+ years with the right software updates.
With the large storage available, you should not have an issue with space. If you do, you could utilise Google Photo’s backup features.
AI Camera Features
I’m not a big fan of big terminologies for small functions. When it comes to camera’s I just want it to work. However, considering the market the phone is targerted at, the AI features TECNO has in the camera will help to take nicer photos.
Now, you don’t need to be an expert photographer to change modes for the camera. The camera can detect if you want to take selfies and switch to portrait.
If your background is over lit, the camera even brings on the HDR Backlight function to help keep your image properly exposed. The camera also detects the eyes in photos and uses that to focus images better.
Big Screen to do more
The 6.8″ Dot Notch Screen that is on the TECNO Spark 7 is big enough to give a good viewing experience. When watching YouTube or other media, you can even zoom in so the media fill the whole screen.
Also, when it comes to gaming, you are able to have your hands on the phone and also enjoy a good view of the game. The screen works fairly well in the sunlight and has colours that are almost true tone. Be careful of the eye care settings as this changes how the colour outputs on the device.
Overall, this screen is big enough to give you maximum enjoyment whether you are on instagram, YouTube or you are just gaming your hearts out.
Conclusion
The TECNO Spark 7p is the affordable under GHS 900 option phone to get right now. With good battery to game and move around with and a screen that allows you to enjoy your content, this phone has a lot of basis covered.
If you want to have an experience of any of the devices in the TECNO Spark 7 series, you can walk into any of TECNO’s accredited shops nationwide. For a list of the shops, click here; https://www.tecno-mobile.com/gh/stores/#/
