TECNO Devices in Ghana are now synonymous with affordability, style and long battery life.

With a lot of their customers coming from the middle to lower spending bracket on smartphones, TECNO’s Spark Series is targeted at those areas while still pushing to give some class and premium feel. The TECNO Spark 7p fits this description so well.

We recently unboxed the device and would want to share the experience and what we found during the unboxing to you.

TECNO Spark 7p Unboxing

My TECNO Spark 7p came in a very exciting yellow-like box. The packaging reels you in to what you would find inside the box.

Inside the box of the TECNO Spark 7p, you get:

• The TECNO Spark 7p Phone
• A 13-month warranty Card
• A transparent Silicon case
• A rectangular head sim ejector
• A Power Adapter
• A micro USB cable and
• A 3.5mm earpiece

This particular device we unboxed was provided by TECNO Ghana and it came in the Alps Blue colour with the very evident TECNO branding behind it.

At the front of the phone is the 6.8″ Dot Notch Screen with a 90Hz Refresh rate. Yes, a 90Hz refresh rate on a TECNO Spark device. Inside the phone’s settings however, you can decide to change it to 60Hz refresh rate if longer battery life is what’s most important to you.

Otherwise, just leave the refresh rate settings at “Auto-Switch” and take advantage of all those apps that can offer you more smoothness when needed.

Behind the phone, there is the evident TECNO Spark branding. The branding is even very visible from the silicon case.

Also, there is the fingerprint sensor which is conveniently positioned just to the right of the Tripple AI Camera set up. The position of the fingerprint sensor makes it difficult to miss it. And after I set it up, in 9 out of 10 times, it unlocked almost immediately.

Also at the rear of the TECNO Spark 7p, there is the AI Camera setup consisting of three camera’s positioned vertically. Just to the right of depth sensor camera, there is the quad flash light and an inscription below that.

TECNO seems to make sure that consumers see the “AI” branding with no chance to miss it. While using the Camera, I realised the AI mode changes scenes based on what you are looking at via the camera viewfinder and it is pretty accurate too.

The left of the phone follows the TECNO tradition with a tray that houses 2 SIMs and an SD Card.

To the right, there is the power and volume buttons.

Overall, holding and using the Spark 7p felt very natural. It fitted right in my hands and was not so big to hold as I feel with some devices.

If you want to get good value for money in the below GHS 900 range, then the TECNO Spark 7p is definitely worth considering.

Tecno Mobile is introducing the Tecno Camon 16 series to markets in which it has operations. Tecno’s Camon 15 series was launched somewhere in March 2020 during the heavy lockdown.

It is unknown how well the Camon 15 performed in sales, although the cheaper Spark 5 seemed to have gain comparatively more grounds.

Nevertheless, Tecno and the Transsion group as a whole, is pushing forward to have their devices in the hands of more people.

Tecno’s camera focused devices, the Camon series is back – this time, with different variants at different price ranges and an almost similar design.

There are three phones in Tecno’s Camon 16 lineup. These include:

Currently, only the full specs of the Tecno Camon 16 Premier has been made available. However, we do know that all the 3 smartphones will have a Quad-camera setup at the rear and a dual selfie camera setup.

Features of Tecno Camon 16 Premier

Camera

At the rear of the Camon 16 is the 64 MP Sony IMX686 main sensor camera, which together with the 8 MP ultrawide-angle camera, and two 2 MP cameras complete the quad setup.

Tecno Mobile has set up the camera in a way to make it an all rounder. It is not only good for general photography, but also takes above average night photos and Portraits.

Battery

The Camon 16 Premier is powered by a 4500mAh battery, an upgrade over it’s predecessor.

The phone should be able to take advantage of Android 10’s good power management system and it appears Tecno will this time look at the software side of things when it comes to power management – hello HiOS.

Also, since the phone supports 33W fast-charging, you will not have to worry about overnight charging. According to Tecno, 33W flash charge greatly cuts down the charging time – 30 minutes charging reaches to 70% power.

Performance

The Camon 16 Premier runs on the MTK G90T chipset. This is as close as a chipset can get to the flagship line in MediaTek chips.

Some AnTuTu tests have given the MediaTek Helio G90T a total score of around 280,000 points. This puts it at a level higher than the Snapdragon 730G.

What these results mean is that the Camon 16 should be able to run a lot of your multi tasking needs and will also be good with gaming.

Coupled with the 8GB of RAM, the smartphone is set to be very usable – less lag, more performance, more multitasking.

It’s been a little over a week since we had a new TECNO Spark 5 from TECNO Ghana. We released the photos of the unboxing some days ago and we’ve had loads of questions coming in about actual usage.

In all the time that the device has been used, the one thing I have enjoyed is holding it in my hands. It feels natural in the palm and I can do most things in one hand, although I am a 2 hands phone user, mostly.

I will like to speak about the silicon case again.

It’s like that one thing that looks like it doesn’t cost a lot but brings so much value to the phone. A lot of people who saw the phone in my hands have often asked what phone it was just because of a glance they had at the back.

That’s a whole lot of extrinsic value.

I used the rear camera much more and it performs quite well. I tried to take very upclose photos as well as some photos outdoor.

I did a few selfies (not sharing because I haven’t had a shave in all of this lockdown).

The four cameras at the rear of the Spark 5 are a Depth lens, a 13MP Primary Camera with F/1.8 aperture, a Macro lens and an AI lens.

Each one has unique functions. For example in the shots above, the rich colour tones of the photo taken at KNUST were optimised by the AI Camera.

In fact, the AI camera can detect a variety of scenes and optimise photos for them. This includes HDR and different scenes.

When it comes to the Operating System, this new version of HiOS was very stable for the time that I used the device.

There was minimal lag, even when playing Asphalt 8 on the phone. The game run smoothly and the screen was just enough to enjoy.

When it comes to the battery, it performed just as expected. On the days when I had more work to do and was just on social media, it lasted the whole day.

On the days where I was gaming heavily (more than 3 hours), I needed to charge up when I got back home – around 5pm.

All this while, the phone has been on WiFi.

So if you are really going to get this phone, you don’t need to worry about battery performance.

While writing this, I set up the screen lock and face unlock on the phone. They both worked so well.

However, for me, the sweetest thing is the fingerprint sensor at the rear of the phone.

Call me old school, but I find it so convenient. There are various lock options – the fingerprint, face unlock and basic pin/password lock.

You also have Google My Protect so should you lose your phone, you have a chance to use it to find out where it may be at.

RAM and Storage on our review unit was 2GB and 32GB respectively. After installing most of the apps I use on a daly basis, there was 730MB of RAM remaining.

I recommend using Google Photos to back up your photos regularly for free so that you can always have enough storage for use.

The SPARK 5 is available in all shops in Ghana at the recommended retail price of GHS 719.

If you are looking for a beautiful phone that offers performance worthy of it’s price and a screen big enough to give you full enjoyment, look no further.

It has not been a week since the TECNO Spark 5 was unveiled in African Markets (Ghana, Nigeria & Kenya) and it seems there is a quick follow up with a more budget friendly device – the TECNO Spark 5 Air.

If you are really interested in the Spark 5 but can not afford it or you are just a little short of cash, the the Spark 5 Air makes sense as it gives you savings, the equivalent of about $6.

It is not surprising that the cost savings is that low. This is because, the Spark 5 has strengths of it’s own, notable among them being a bigger screen than the earlier released TECNO Spark 5.

Features of the TECNO Spark 5 Air

Most of the features of the TECNO Spark 5 Air are just similar to those of the Spark 5, which we have discusses here – TECNO Spark 5 Features.

However, what differentiates the Spark 5 from this Spark 5 Air is the implementation of Android Go and a much bigger scree.

Android Go means that the Spark 5 Air will likely be faster, and utilise the RAM on board, although the chipset is yet to be disclosed.

With a bigger screen of about 0.4 inches more than the Spark 5, the Spark 5 Air should also be the better option if you are all into consuming multimedia content on your device.

Tecno Mobile seems to be on a roll with the release of new phones, even during the pandemic, the latest of which is the new TECNO Spark 5.

The predecessor to the new TECNO Spark 5, was released just in September of 2019 on the Ghanaian, Nigerian and other African markets. However, it seems TECNO Mobile is ready to ride on the success of the Spark 4, coupled with some reported shortages to bring in the Spark 5; albeit a good move.

This phone comes with a total of 6 flashlights for photography, with 4 of these lights at the rear of the phone, vertically placed around the rear cameras and the remaining two featuring as the dual front camera flash.

When comparing the Spark 5 to the Spark 4, one noticeable upgrade, which is also very much welcomed would be in the area of the battery with an additional 1000 mAH over the TECNO Spark 4, bringing the total battery capacity of the new Spark 5 to a competitive 5000 mAH.

On the software part, the Spark 5 is running on Android 10, with the latest version of TECNO’s UI skin – HiOS 6.

Features of the TECNO Spark 5

AI Quad Camera with AI Camera 3.0

Equipped with a quad-camera setup which also has 4 flashlights at the back, the Spark 5 will allow for some great photography including, bokeh effect (blurred background) and AI portrait mode.

The 4 Cameras consist of:

• a Depth lens
• a 13MP Primary Camera with F/1.8 aperture
• a Macro lens and
• an AI lens

With AI Scene detection, the camera can detect 10 different scenes. These are food, pets, flowers, street, portrait, night mode, night portrait, AI HDR, standard HDR and shopping mall environment.

According to TECNO, photos and selfies taken by the SPARK 5 would be much more impressive and attractive under most everyday conditions. The newly upgraded algorithm “AI Camera 3.0” makes noticeable improvements in the areas of AI HDR, AI Scene Detection and more amazing photography functions.

Even in backlight scenarios, the new SPARK 5 could still be brighter and clearer, avoiding overexposure of the light parts and clearly showcasing dark details.

Battery and Performance

Bigger Battery, Dark Mode and Gesture Navigation

With a 5000mAH battery, the Spark 5 is expected to last longer than the Spark 4. Coupled with an Android 10 OS, the Spark 5 will use some of the very good battery-saving functions of the OS.

According to TECNO, the Spark 5 has a standby time of 526 hours.

There is also the dark theme that has been included in this new version of HiOS. This means you can enjoy all the darkness that apps can bring while having less strain on your eyes. This should also make your battery last longer.

However, don’t expect the TECNO Spark 5 to last a full day if you are going to be playing heavy games on it.

It’s also disappointing to see the 2018 Mediatek Helio A22 MT6761 on the device.

Automatic WhatsApp Status Saver

If you are one of the people who love to repost WhatsApp Status of your friends and you don’t want to rely on 3rd Party apps to do so, then the Spark 5 might have something you might just love.

With settings on the phone, you can save your favourite status as long as you want You no longer have to be limited by 24 hours. You can choose between 15 days, 1 month, 3 months or even forever to have WhatsApp statuses saved.

Features of Tecno Camon 15

The Camon 15 has been seen in stores outside Ghana since February 2020.

The build of the phone is a plastic body (back and frame) and the usual glass front. The display size is 6.55 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which gives a 720 x 1600 pixels resolution.

Mfidie.com can confirm that the smartphone comes with 4 cameras which includes a 48MP main shooter.

The front of the phone is a 16MP selfie camera which should be more than enough to capture everyday shots.

Back to the main camera, it features main a Quad-LED flash and has both panorama and HDR functionality.

Some of the sensors on the TECNO Camon 15 are Fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, and proximity.

When it comes to battery juice, the phone is kept alive by a Non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery.

With 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, performance on the Camon 15 should be okay. However, the internal storage can be further extended by a microSD card.

The phone runs on the Android 10.0 with TECNO’s HIOS 6.0 skin.

Features of Tecno Camon 15 Premier

Unlike the Camon 15, the TECNO Camon 15 Permier’s back is made of glass, which is quite receptive to fingerprints but there is a free phone case in the box so that shouldn’t be an issue.

Interestingly, Tecno Camon 15 Premier will be the first Phone from TECNO in Ghana to feature a pop-up selfie camera mechanism. The phone comes with a 32-megapixel pop-up AI Selfie camera which supports beauty, AI shot, super night, and wide selfie.

All three phones are pretty decent at the price that they come with and for most people, the features of the Camon 12 Pro, including the screen fingerprint and the Amoled Display (perfect for dark mode) should make it a clear choice.

You should be looking at buying the Camon 12 Pro if you run a lot of heavy apps and don’t mind dishing out a higher amount to enjoy the 6GB of RAM and a high 32MP selfie camera experience.
