Deadline: 31st December 2021 is the last day to link SSNIT & Ghana Card

If you have not already linked your SSNIT and Ghana Card, you can do so via the online process now before the deadline hits. For those who have issues linking it via the mobile shortcode, they can visit the SSNIT office to have it done.

Work will resume at all SSNIT offices starting today Wednesday, 29th to Friday, 31st December 2021 between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.

The merger is in compliance with Regulation 7 (1) of the National Identity Register Regulations, 2012, LI 2111, and a directive from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA).

Sample confirmation message after linking SSNIT and NIA/Ghana Card Numbers

Also, starting next month, new subscribers to the national pension scheme (SSNIT) would be required to have Ghana cards before they would be taken on board.

There are three ways you can do the merger. These are:

    1. By walking into any SSNIT office near you
    2. By using the shortcode – *711*9#
    3. by using the SSNIT website

Why you should merge/link your SSNIT and NIA (Ghana Card) Numbers

    1. You only have to carry your Ghana Card for all transactions
    2. Easy identification of nominated dependants
    3. You save money because you don’t need to pay for a SSNIT card
    4. It’s a legal requirement

What you need to merge your SSNIT and Ghana Card Numbers

To link your SSNIT and Ghana Card Number, you need to have the following:

    • Your NIA number
    • SSNIT number
    • Mobile phone number
    • Active email address

How to find your NIA/Ghana Card Number

To find your NIA or Ghana Card number, all you need is your Ghana Card. Once you have the Ghana Card, look at the section that says “Personal ID Number”. You will find an alphanumeric code in the format “GNXXXXXXXXXX”.

The alphanumeric code is your NIA Number or your Ghana Card number. It is this code that you will use to merge your SSNIT and NIA Numbers.

How to merge your SSNIT and Ghana Card on your Phone

    1. Dial *711*9# on your mobile phone
    2. Select option 1
    3. Enter your SSNIT Number
    4. Enter your email address (if the phone number you are using is different from your phone number registered in our database)
    5. Enter the Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card
    6. Select option 1 to complete the merging of your SSNIT and the NIA numbers (Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card)
    7. Wait for the confirmation message

    TECNO Spark 8p Unboxing

Inside the box of the TECNO Spark 8p, you get:

    • The TECNO Spark 8p Phone
    • A 13-month warranty Card
    • A transparent Silicon case
    • A sim ejector
    • A 10 Watts Power Adapter
    • A micro USB cable and
    • A 3.5mm earpiece

My TECNO Spark 8p was presented in the orange-like exciting case synonymous with the Spark series. The packaging lifts you in high spirit and directs you to what you should expect.

When you open the box, you get the device itself. Next, you find the silicone case that fits perfectly fine with the device when I tested it.

You are also greeted with the 12 plus 1-month warranty card. Other things you find are a 10 watts charger, a micro USB charging cable an earpiece, and a SIM eject tool.

At the back of the TECNO Spark 8p itself, there is a very new and welcomed shiny design. You can also see in the photos that there is a super shiny camera cut out made of plastic.

TECNO also seized the opportunity to put in a lot of branding as the TECNO Spark logo is very visible.

While holding it, the device felt good in the hands and looks beautiful; something I would want to “flex” with given the transparent case.

The power button, this time, also acts as the fingerprint sensor; and using it feels so fast and responsive.

The other sides of the device have the volume buttons, charging port, and sim area.

  • Why Bitcoin Adoption is on the rise in Ghana

Why Bitcoin Adoption is on the rise in Ghana

The bitcoin community has continued to grow across the world and Africa seems to be the new niche for cryptocurrency. Recently, news about the increase in the market price of bitcoin to over $60,000 has raised the appetite for risk of many bitcoin enthusiasts and sympathizers.

People who have doubted the value of bitcoin due to its high volatility are beginning to rethink and consider the option of venturing into the cryptocurrency space. Despite its birth as a payment tool over a decade ago, bitcoin has mainly been used for speculation by financial traders rather than for commerce.

In this light, considering the rapid advancement in technology, tech-savvy Africans have easily adapted to bitcoin. Most of the African bitcoin enthusiasts have argued that their weak local currencies makes it difficult for them to get the dollar; recognised as the currency for international trade.

Moreover, they complain of complex transaction procedures involved in the transfer of finances within and across national borders. With the advent of cryptocurrency in Ghana, most of the business class have affirmed that bitcoin is helping them make their businesses seamless and more profitable, and also helping migrants remit with ease.

Despite its high volatility, the adoption of bitcoin in Ghana is rising on a daily basis.

Bitcoin adoption: A path to financial inclusion

Nowadays, everyone, employed or unemployed, young or old, male or female expresses the desire to have control over their finances. Decentralised Finance systems in one way or the other attempts to make such desires come through.

Notwithstanding, many cryptocurrency companies argue that adopting bitcoin can grant financial access to all. Thus, permitting them to bypass the accrued difficulties which come with using the traditional finance system.

In Ghana, the population is joining the global move towards the adoption of bitcoin; considered the universal currency.

The Reasons for the rise of Bitcoin Adoption in Ghana

    Amongst other reason, the most prominent stands that account for the rise of bitcoin adoption in Ghana include;

Easy, fast and limitless transaction Service

The absence of a central authority to govern the transactions made with bitcoin attracts many Ghanaians. Unlike the traditional banking systems which permit users to store their finances in Saving or Current accounts, requiring prior notification before withdrawal of a considerable amount, owning a bitcoin wallet has proven to be more efficient and seamless.

Bitcoin users have attested that they are able to send and receive huge sums of money in their wallets at any time from any part of the world without interruption.

The idea of a fast, easy and limitless transaction service has won the hearts of many Ghanaians, who today understand that using bitcoin has become a new global habit that everyone should accommodate.

    Low transaction cost

Everyone who is versed with sending money within and out of Ghana can relate to the relatively high transaction rates to be paid to any of the agencies rendering them the service.

The rates are even higher for remittances. The low transaction rates bitcoin users incur is nothing short of good news to Ghanaians and other bitcoin enthusiasts. As such, Ghanaian migrants prefer to remit using bitcoin, such that the cash-out can be done in any local currency depending on the receiver’s location.

With Bitcoin, it is possible to make temporary deposits and refund the amount without incurring charges. In other words, sending bitcoin from one wallet to another wallet does not incur any charges. With such advantages, bitcoin continues to be on a steady rise in Ghana.

    Unbanked transactions

It is no news that the majority of Ghanaian citizens are unbanked. As such, they cannot benefit from any banking service.

This situation makes financial inclusion even more difficult. However, adopting bitcoin has become the new trend and solves the problem automatically. Bitcoin transactions do not require a bank account. Sooner or later, it will be more common to hear people ask for Bitcoin Account Numbers rather than Bank Account Numbers.

The point is, with bitcoin, nobody needs a banking institution to keep their money. Consequently, owning a bank account appears to be a burden.

    The Cryptocurrency space in Ghana

The Ghanaian economy is open to many cryptocurrency service providers. As the number of bitcoin service providers continue to grow, the number of bitcoin users follow. Therefore, If people perish because of the lack of knowledge, knowing more about bitcoin and its numerous advantages appears to be knowledge everyone should benefit from.

The presence of companies in Ghana such as Crypto Bitz, BtcGhana, Binance and Kraken have been serving bitcoin enthusiasts on a daily basis. Yellow Card Financial is the newest “baby” in Ghana’s cryptocurrency space.

With Yellow Card, you can trade bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies at minimal rates. That’s not all! Also seize the opportunity to educate yourself and understand the twists and turns of cryptocurrencies on the Yellow Card Academy platform. It is worthy to note that it does not suffice to only buy and sell bitcoin and other currencies. Knowing how they function is an added advantage as it helps you make informed choices.

Yellow Card permits you to use Mobile Money to deposit into your bitcoin wallet as well as convert your bitcoin to Cedis and cash out at any time. All you need is to create a Yellow Card account using the Yellow Card mobile App or the web page www.yellowcard.io

    Conclusion

Yellow Card through its DeFi model is aimed at bringing financial inclusion for everyone in Ghana. As we continue to work for financial inclusion it is important to remember that cryptocurrencies have been described as the future of money, with respect to the rapid advancement in ICTs and Financial technologies that are marking the 21st century.

    Get started with Bitcoin.

MTN Mobile Money Down for customers across Ghana

Update: As at 22:01 GMT, MTN’s Mobile Money service seems to have been restored.

A lot of customers on MTN Ghana’s Mobile Money service have complained about the service being down for them. Those who are trying to receive money or send are unable to do so as of 21:55 GMT on Tuesday, 19th October 2021.

The MTN Mobile money outage was first reported to me via a friend around 21:32 GMT today. When using the usual *170# shortcode, I only receive some HTML responses.

However, one Twitter user @MSBawoni seem to have experienced issues as early as 19:15 GMT.

A lot of other users on social media platforms have also confirmed that they are having issues with MTN Mobile Money’s services.

Tecno Camon 18 Premier: Price, Specs, Features Review And Best Deals

Many fans of the TECNO Brand will be excited to know that the Camon Series is back with the new TECNO Camon 18 Premeir. The TECNO Camon series are generally a heavy camera-focused line from the rising Chinese phone maker.

However, in recent times, the devices have not just been your typical “master of the camera game”, they have added a lot of performance improvements as evident in the TECNO Camon 16 Premier which was released and accepted widely in spite of the pandemic last year.

What’s facsinating about the Camon 18 Premier is the Ultra-steady Gimbal Camera technology that TECNO has introduced into it.

According to TECNO, the 12MP Stabilized Gimbal Camera (part of a 3 camera rear camera set-up on the device) can take care of all “strong video shake and blurred images” so you can enjoy shooting ultra clear and stable videos.

Before looking at all the features that the device brings forward, let’s look at the specifications of the device.

Features of Tecno Camon 18 Premier

    Camera

As with any of the older Camon series, the camera is the main talking point of this device. The device itself comes with 4 cameras in total.

    These are:

    • Front: a 32MP Front Camera with Dual Flash
    • Rear: a 64 MP main sensor + a 12 MP Stabilized Gimbal Camera + a 8 MP Periscope Telephoto

This setup gives the device the chance to do amazing stuff. First is what TECNO calls a 60X Hyper Zoom. This is actually a 5X optical zoom and 12X digital zoom. This zoom zoom is complemented with TECNO’s own proprietary AI TAIVOS technology. You should expect a little blur when you zoom in on photos taken past the 5X zoom but that should not be much of an issue.

Also, the camera has some wonderful night mode, especially for videos taken in the portrait mode. The general night mode of the camera also utilises algorithms to automatically activate when the night is detected.

And when it’s night, TECNO says the device can help you capture images of the moon, which is referred to as the “Super Moon”. Here, the Camon 18 Premier is utilising mother company – Transsion’s own Galileo algorithm engine.

    Battery

Who wouldn’t want to keep using their phone without worrying about loss of juice, especially when elecricity is sometimes unpredictable? Well, the TECNO Camon 18 Premier makes an improvement over the 16 Premier in the battery department with it’s 4750 mAh battery.

The Camon 18 Premier is also capable of 33W Flash charge (fast charging) which means you don’t have to worry much to charge it overnight, and should you forget it charge it, you only need a few minutes to get it back on track. According to TECNO’s marketing, you can get the device charged to 64% in just 30 minutes. This is an improvement from earlier devices.

    Performance

Earlier, I wrote about how TECNO’s Camon series have been taking performance serious in recent releases. The Camon 18 Premier is not exception in this case, shipping with Mediatek’s latest Helio G96 chip with an Octa core CPU.

This chip ensures that performance-wise, the TECNO Camon 18 should not fail you in your day to day activities.

You should also be able to run a lot of your games at performance level settings. Moreover, the G96 has very good 4G even for your dual sim setup. You should be able to enjoy fast internet too whether you are on SIM 1 or SIM 2.

    Design and Display

Design-wise, the TECNO Camon 18 looks flat and because of it’s thinner form, is easy to hold up in the hands. I am perosnally not a fan of branding at the back of devices, however, TECNO has kept the branding minimalistic this time, maybe adding up to the design.

The Camon 18 Premier comes in 3 colours:

    • Dusk Gray
    • Ceramic White
    • Iris Purple

The dot-in display also does well to give the user a lot of screen real estate so videos and other full screen apps can be enjoyed very well.

The screen itself supports 120hz, thanks to the G96 chipset. The 120hz support means gaming will be much smoother and scrolling will feel seamless. However, TECNO gives the option to turn of 120hz if you feel you don’t need it, giving you bigger gains in the battery field. This, I feel is very good.

    Software

Android 11 is what the TECNO Camon 18 ships with, and TECNO is promising an upgrade to Android 12 soon. However, the big part of the software will be TECNO’s own HiOS.

With HiOS 8 on the Camon 18 Premier, there are more software features like real-time weather, added data security, smart card, phone cloner and a voice changer. Lots of fun.

Price of the TECNO Camon 18 Premier in Ghana

The TECNO Camon 18 Premier is retailing at GHS 2060 across all phone retail shops in Ghana. Check this space as we will update constantly with the best deals.

The Ghanaian people, have come to the realisation that the Ghana Card is now the single most powerful ID in the country for getting things done, especially things in relation to the Government.

Missing or Lost Ghana Card? Full Steps on how to replace/Apply Again

Ghana Card is a national identity card issued by the Ghana National identification authority(NIA) to citizens of the country, both residents and non-residents, including foreigners who are legal and permanent residents.

The Ghana Card is used in traveling. It validates your identity at borders, airports, and police checkpoints when traveling.

It’s currently not in use as the government has directed that it will be effective from 2022 (the official date has not been disclosed yet).

In September 2019, the chief executive of the National identification authority, Ken Attafuah, stated that from October 2019 Bank of Ghana (BoG) would direct all commercial banks in the country to accept the Ghana card as a means of identification.

The card is to become Ghana’s main identification card. The card can also be a visa to all countries under the “ECOWAS” and other non-African countries like Jamaica. If you have not registered for the ghana card yet, you should know that you can register online through the NIA portal.
