Also, when setting up their accounts, don’t use their birthdays or names in them. This makes it very easy for someone guessing the password. If it is going to be difficult to memorise all passwords, they can use many of the password saver apps available.

Keep kids’ internet enabled devices in common areas

Kids are less likely to be lured online when they know/feel they are being supervised. One of the best ways to do this is to keep stationary devices like a computer in a common area and not the bedroom. When it comes to videos, they can always use the family TVs.

Avoid the temptation of setting up devices in the kids’ rooms. You should even make rules that prevent them from taking handheld and portable devices like laptops, PDAs and phones into their bedrooms.

Monitor and manage kids’ online access

Many apps nowadays have parental controls that can be taken advantage of to view what the kids have been up to online as well as limit access to websites and apps. Most of these parental control features send alerts when a kid tries to access what they are not allowed to.

You can even fine tune parental control access so that kids are unable to send personal details like their address and full name to strangers on the internet. It’s important to spend some time configuring parental controls before you give kids access to the internet.

Why ECG Prepaid Customers are unable to buy credit right now

A lot of individuals who are trying to top up their credit are unable to do so at the moment. Some of them have been trying by using the app while others have gone to vendors but this has still not worked.

We have done some digging and asceretained that the fault is coming from ECG.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is currently experiencing some technical challenges which has made it difficult for people to buy credit. The problem started on Monday 26th September 2022 and as of Thursday morning, it still remains unsolved.

Places affected fall in the regional areas of the ECG in Volta, Kumasi, Accra, Takoradi, Tema, Cape Coast, Kasoa, Winneba, Swedru, Koforidua, Nkawkaw, and Tafo.

VENDING CHALLENGE WITH PREPAYMENT SYSTEM
The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited wishes to inform our cherished customers that due to a technical challenge which has affected our prepaid metering systems, purchase of electricity credit has been interrupted.
Some customers in the following areas have been affected; Volta, Kumasi, Accra, Takoradi, Tema, Cape Coast, Kasoa, Winneba, Swedru, Koforidua, Nkawkaw, and Tafo.
Affected customers should please note that our ICT team is working assiduously to correct the anomaly and restore the system to normalcy.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this technical challenge.

How to Update MTN Ghana SIM Registration Status Online for Free
For some time now, there has been news about fresh registration of SIM Cards in Ghana. However, due to the coronavirus and other uncertainties, this has appeared not to bear fruit.

In view of that, the largest Telecommunications network in Ghana, MTN has rolled out a feature that allows customers to update their SIM registration details online without leaving their homes.

This feature is available for new and already existing MTN subscribers, meaning, if you buy a new MTN SIM card, you can choose to go home and register it yourself. One interesting thing about this feature is the fact that it is totally free.

On the down side, customers who would like to register or update their details with the Ghana card are supposed to do so only at MTN offices and service centres across the country.

In this article, I am going to show you how to update your MTN SIM Registration details and all the other important stuff you need to take note of.

How to update your MTN SIM Registration details

MTN SIM Update Portal

Follow the steps below to update the details you used to register your MTN number/SIM:
1. Visit the MTN Ghana SIM Registration Update portal – https://simregistrationportal.mtn.com.gh
2. Enter your MTN Number and press proceed. Eg: 055XXXXXXX
3. Wait for MTN Ghana to send you the OTP Code
4. Enter the OTP Code (6 digits numeric code sent via SMS)
5. Check and update your first, last and middle name details
6. Check and update your date of birth, ID type and ID number, gender, and your residential address (including your Ghana Post GPS).
7. Select your Region of Residence
8. Choose your Nationality
9. Upload a photo of your ID (max 4MB)
10. Upload a photo of you holding the ID
11. Press Update Details
12. Upon successful completion, a confirmation message will be sent to your number via SMS
What Are The Requirements For Updating Your MTN SIM Registration Details?

The requirements for updating your MTN SIM card registrations details are:

If you are a Ghanaian customer, you will need to use a valid National ID (Voter ID, Passport, Driver’s License, or Ghana card).

Foreigners will need to use their National Passport when registering or updating their SIM details.

How Long Will This Feature Be Available?

The SIM registration details updates began in June 2020 and was scheduled to end at the end of 2020. However, the portal is still active as at June 2021 and MTN Ghana is sending messages to subscribers to do the update.

What happens to your Mobile Money when your SIM is blocked?

Many people whose SIM Cards are blocked seem to be questioning what exactly happens to their Mobile Money account and balance.

If you have not registered your MTN Sim Card, you most likely have had your SIM blocked, and your calls, SMS, etc., are not working. You can not access MTN Ghana’s services due to the blocking.

The recent blocking of SIM cards has led many to ask if their Mobile Money balance will be secure, especially those outside Ghana who cannot register their SIM Cards, even with the SIM registration app.

Most of these people do not have Ghana Card, so there is no way for them to do the registration.

What happens to your mobile money account when your SIM is blocked?

Unlike a dormant mobile money account, we can say that when MTN blocks your SIM due to failure to register, your money will remain intact in the account. Some people with blocked SIMS can still dial *170# and access their Mobile Money.

However, it will be prudent to register as soon as possible or immediately transfer your funds or withdraw them.

It will continue to be more frustrating if you have not registered your SIM card; hence it’s best to do so if you can.

For those outside the country, MTN has an online portal for registration (if you have a Ghana Card). That could be utilized as well.

Your Mobile Money account is safe for now. However, the best thing to do is to register your SIM or empty the MoMo account of a SIM you don’t want to register.

Call Barring? How to restore your blocked MTN, Vodafone, etc SIM
Many Ghanaians have reported that they cannot make phone calls simply because their numbers have been blocked or barred from making calls. We explore the solutions available to enable such people to continue to enjoy call and data services.

Re-register your SIM Card with your Ghana Card

Registering your SIM Card is the most obvious solution. If you have not done the first part of the registration, now that your SIM Card is blocked, you will not be able to do it.

You can follow the registration steps when available to register your SIM Card fully. You can also try using the SIM Registration app, although it has not worked correctly for me since it launched.

Visit the Telco Office

There is some group of people who have successfully gone through the registration process but still have their calls barred. All those who have registered but still had their SIM cards blocked will have to visit their Telco’s office to solve the problem.

MTN MoMo Airtime Reversal: How to Convert your Credit to Cash
Have we not all been there before? That moment when you mistakenly send airtime to someone as money. It has happened to me a couple of times, through which I have learnt my hard lessons.

However, with the new set of rules that MTN has put in place on their popular Mobile Money Platform, such mistakes of sending money as airtime (credit) can easily be reversed.

MTN recently announced that mobile money subscribers in Ghana can now reverse money transfers that are mistakenly sent as airtime. The minimum airtime that can be reversed is GHS 10.00. Any transactions below this amount cannot be reversed.

The MTN Mobile money reversal allows you to convert airtime wrongly sent back into cash.

The airtime reversal is currently available for only MoMo subscribers on the USSD menu – *170#.

How to reverse MTN Mobile Money Transactions (Change Airtime back into cash)
1. Dial *170#
2. Enter 7 for Wallet
3. Enter 5 for Airtime Reversal
4. Enter 1 to confirm the reversal.

7. The sender of the Airtime needs to contact the receiver to approve the reversal after initiating the reversal.
8. Airtime reversal can only be done within 72 hours of performing the transaction.
9. No reversal can be processed after 72 hours of purchase.
10. Notification will be sent to both the sender and receiver upon completion of the reversal.
