Ever since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ghana, numerous health and tech individuals and organisations have been looking at the best way to help with the situation.
Ghana’s Nyaho Medical Centre has collaborated with ClearSpace labs, an AI Research & Development company to launch a COVID-19 assessment tool called Serenity Health.
Serenity Health was developed to help the Ghanaians assess their COVID-19 risk, connect with health teams and testing locations as well as give access to daily follow-ups on the coronavirus pandemic.
When you use the assessment tool, you will be able to make decisions about seeking appropriate medical care at certified locations in Ghana.
There have been other apps relating to the coronavirus in Ghana like tracing app by the Ghana Institute of Surveyors.
Let’s look at how you can use the Serenity Health COVID-19 assessment tool to check your risk level of having the coronavirus.
How to check your Coronavirus (COVID-19) Risk Status in Ghana
Click on the “Click Here to Start Assessment” button
A pop up comes to ask for location access. You can disable location as this does not affect the results
Agree to the terms and conditions of the website
Answer the questions that the Chatbot pops up as correctly as you can
You will then receive an assessment response which could be either high risk or low risk
Apart from the assessment that the website provides, it also gives you the chance to schedule an appointment or have a health professional call you (which is very useful).
Don’t forget to share with your friends so they can all test too.
And remember to stay home and practice social distancing. Let’s fight COVID-19 together.
Battery life has always been a problem for electronic devices, from the days of the Walkman, MP3 and now Smartphones.
It is no surprise that nowadays, a lot of people look at the battery capacity of phones before making a purchasing decision. Battery life is limited, and however you look at it, you still need ways to save your battery.
Here are a handful of tips and tricks you can use for your Apple or Android device that will make your phone battery last longer.
How to Make Your Phone’s Battery Last Longer
Check battery usage
In your settings, you can see a breakdown of what apps are using your battery the most. Often, it’s only one or two apps that are taking up most of your battery, and everything else consumes just a small percentage.
Some apps that you use every day are actually killing your battery faster than you know. The big one is Facebook. This app actually uses a surprising amount of energy merely by refreshing in the background.
Turn down brightness
Chances are your brightness is much higher than it needs to be. Try turning it way down until it’s at a dim setting that is still usable. When checking my own battery use, “Screen” is right there at the top of the list.
Turn off Location Services
Make sure you turn off your Location setting whenever you aren’t using it. Some apps to be aware of that use Location are Maps (of course), Pokemon Go (for such a fun game, it mercilessly kills your battery), Uber, and anything else that requires GPS navigation.
Ease up on the camera
If you’re taking pictures or videos all day, that’s likely where your battery is going. Using the camera on your phone kills your battery fast, and using the flash doesn’t help either. Beware of any image chatting apps like Skype and Hangouts, or social media like Instagram and Snapchat.
Power Saving Mode
Apple has Low Power Mode on its iPhones and iPads, and Android has Battery Saving Mode. These settings reduce the performance of your phone but will make your phone last significantly longer.
Android even has Ultra Power Saving mode, which will make your phone last much, much longer. But it’s kind of a drastic measure.
Turn off vibrations
If you don’t need your phone to vibrate for messages just turn it off instead of letting notifications shake your battery to death.
Use Battery saving apps
Apps like Battery Doctor (iOS, Android) or DU Battery Saver (Android) help you pinpoint apps that are draining your battery.
From within the app, you can adjust settings like Location, Bluetooth, and screen brightness in order to conserve battery.
Turn off auto downloads
On Apple, go to settings, select iTunes and App Store, scroll down to Automatic Downloads, and toggle all of the options off. On Android, go to the Play Store settings, and tap on Auto-update apps.
You’ll be given the option to turn auto-updates on or off, or you can choose to only have auto-updates occur over Wi-Fi, which will also save battery.
Uninstall unnecessary apps
Routinely go through all of your apps and uninstall any that you don’t use. These apps could be using up a small amount of battery throughout the day, which can really add up over time.
If you follow these tips, you can keep your phone’s battery life from perpetually living in the danger zone between a low battery and a dead phone. Hope they help.

Way back in 2009, when I had just acquired my first “true” mobile phone – the Nokia Xpress Music 5130c-2 – I was among the happiest people on earth.
I was using MTN then and internet bundle was much of an issue as it was pretty much expensive.
That Nokia phone, and those of it’s kind, are what we now refer to as “feature phones”. Yes, It lacked a mind to be smart.
The phone also runs on Java and any application that had to be installed had to be a java application.
We used to browse through the then-popular waptrick.com just to find some useful applications or games to download and play.
Opera Mini browser during those days was my best browser and I remember personally installing and recommending it for a lot of people.
We used Opera mini for basically everything – News, Facebook, wallpaper search and the likes.
On a feature phone like the Xpress Music, Opera Mini was the best because it loaded pages very fast in a city where 3G access was very limited even on MTN at the time.
Opera mini also did not use a lot of data bundle and this made it a browser favourite for a lot of people. Honestly, I can’t think of any other browser around the time that posed any threat to Opera Mini – maybe UC Browser.
Fast Forward to 2020, where the standard is a smartphone with at least 4G internet access and huge data plans.
Is Opera Mini really useful now? My answer – NO!
When I had my first true smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy S4, Opera Mini browser was one of the first applications I downloaded from the then Android Store.
Still got love for feature phones and even “yams”.
After all, I had a relationship with the browser that has had my back for all these years. However, with each passing day, I became more and more disappointed in the application – it had not changed much.
All Opera Mini knew was speed, sacrificing other very relevant functionalities.
It’s very surprising that a lot of Ghanaians still use the Opera Mini Browser
Opera Mini remains one of the most popular browsers in Ghana. In fact, just last month, over 30% of the visits to Mfidie.com came from the browser.
But why don’t I like it anymore?
Firstly, Opera Mini works very badly with JavaScript and I doubt you will be able to comment on this post if you use the browser.
Opera mini also makes copying text from a website a nasty experience. The text is not wrapped effectively and if you do copy from within the browser and paste elsewhere, you would spend a lot of time “editing” the text to look just right.
Opera mini essentially limits the functionalities of websites and may even make a perfectly good looking website look so dumb.
Not a browser you can enjoy right now – Even on the Galaxy S4, released in 2013.
Personally, as a publisher, Opera Mini is fast becoming a nemesis. I rely heavily on Google Ads and Opera Mini by default blocks every kind of Google Ad.
The browser is so aggressive at blocking ads that even image ads are sometimes caught. If 30% of my visitors are not seeing my ads, that’s huge. I take solace in the fact that all these people reading on Mfidie.com still get all the information they need.
Mfidie.com currently has a publishing agreement with Opera Mini’s sister app – Opera News, where our own Ads are blocked by default, and Opera places their ads, but revenue is shared. Maybe Opera can look at implementing that inside of Opera Mini.
And for everyday internet surfers, if you are using Opera Mini, you are definitely using it because of one or both of these reasons – speed and data savings.
I stopped using Opera Mini because a fast browser that does not deliver quality does not quite make the cut for me.
I discovered an old acquaintance – UC Browser. This browser delivered almost the same speed as Opera Mini as well as better functionality. I was able to do almost all that I wanted to do on any website of my choice.
Again, I think Opera Mini is not for your smartphone – we’ve moved past that level.
There’s a reason why there is a real Opera Browser on the Play Store (without the mini).
Maybe look at your browser choices. After all, if you have been able to stay in a relationship with Opera Mini, then you can love almost any other browser.
What do you think of Opera Mini? Do you still use it? Leave a comment below.

Mobile Money transactions in Ghana keep on growsing, and with a growing concern over Coronavirus and the threat, it posses via cash transactions, a lot more people have now switched to Mobile Money payments.
In Ghana MTN Mobile Money, AirtelTigo Money and Vodafone Cash are the most used phone number susbscriber based Mobile Money Service.
However, the charges associated with Mobile Money is something that discourages people from using it.
Recently, daily transactions of up to GHS 100 were made free. Although Mobile Money providers are looking for ways to end that since they claim it is hurting their revenue.
We have found a new way for you to send multiples of GHS 400 via your Mobile Money to other people without paying for any charges.
This tutorial is very short and works. You will have to use an App called Waya App.
Select your Fund Source and choose “Add Mobile Money”
Send up to GHS 400
Confirm to make payment
Kindly note that you only need to register your account once on the app. Once that is done, you can always open the app and send money to other Mobile Money users.
Waya Money also makes it easy to send money from your Mobile Money account straight to another Mobile Money or Bank in Nigeria and Kenya.
Have any other Mobile Money hacks to share with us? Send them to [email protected] and we will be in touch.
Ghana is blacklisted by PayPal and that’s why we go through a lot of steps to get a PayPal account.
However, the good thing is that you don’t need to go through a lot of stress to withdraw your hard-earned money that is in your PayPal account.
In fact, a lot of the people who will tell you it is difficult simply to want to take advantage of your quest to get your money fast and offer you very low rates for your money.
I have been withdrawing money from my PayPal account since late 2017 when I first had my UBA AfriCard.
Apart from that, it is now very easy to withdraw from PayPal because the First Atlantic Bank (FAB) Prepaid Card takes less than 5 minutes to get in any of their branches.
To withdraw your money from PayPal in Ghana, you need the following:
UBA AfriCard / First Atlantic Bank Prepaid Card / Access Bank Prepaid
Please note that you can link a wide variety of cards to your PayPal account but the three cards listed above are the only ones you can withdraw from.
How to get First Atlantic Bank Prepaid Card for PayPal in Ghana
Although we recommend using UBA AfriCard, you can also use the FAB Prepaid Card (which is easier to get) or the Access Bank Prepaid Card (same requirements as UBA AfriCard).
To get an FAB Prepaid Card you need to take your valid ID Card and a minimum deposit of GHS 20 to the nearest First Atlantic Bank branch.
They will walk you through the process at the bank and you should have your card in less than 30 minutes.
How to get a UBA AfriCard in Ghana
The UBA AfriCard is one of the best debit prepaid cards in Ghana and West Africa as a whole. It works with most ATMs, POS and online transactions.
I have personally used the card in more than 3 countries and it still works perfectly well. And this is the same card that I got from UBA Ghana.
When you walk to the UBA Bank branch for the AfriCard, you will be asked to provide the following details:
Tax Identification Number – TIN
Valid National ID
Initial Deposit – around GHS 50
Once you have them, here is how to get your UBA AfriCard instantly:
Ask at the enquiries desk that you will want to get a UBA AfriCard
You may be encouraged to open a bank account there but this is not really important
When getting the card, deposit GHS 50 on it
After that, the Bank will get you the card and give you instructions on how to use it.
Please note that the steps to get the UBA AfriCard is the same for getting a new Access Bank Prepaid Card.
How to add your UBA AfriCard (or any other card) to your PayPal Account
Log in to Paypal using this link: paypal.com/ls by using your email and password.
In the notification area, at the top right-hand corner. Click on it, You will be requested to link a Credit Card (Master Card/Visa Card).
You will be directed to a page to input your card details, in that case, input your UBA Visa Card Details or the details of the particular card you are using (FAB or Access Bank).
Next, Click on the Continue tab after entering your Card details
When done, a small fee will be debited from your Card by Paypal like a Dollar or so, then sent back again to confirm the authenticity of the Card
After that, a page will appear where you will be asked to enter a confirmation page to fully verify your account
Now, check your mobile phone or email, a text message confirmation of the Paypal transaction is sent to the mobile number you used in obtaining your Visa Card
Now you get a combination of numbers and words. The numbers in front of the word CODE in the combination is what you will input in the verification field
After you have entered the code, your account is all set up to start receiving and sending money even while in Ghana
Conclusion
If you need any help getting a UBA AfriCard or withdrawing your paypal funds here in Ghana, try to drop a question and we will get back to you on it.

It’s been a little over a week since we had a new TECNO Spark 5 from TECNO Ghana. We released the photos of the unboxing some days ago and we’ve had loads of questions coming in about actual usage.
https://mfidie.com/tecno-spark-5-2020/
In all the time that the device has been used, the one thing I have enjoyed is holding it in my hands. It feels natural in the palm and I can do most things in one hand, although I am a 2 hands phone user, mostly.
I will like to speak about the silicon case again.
It’s like that one thing that looks like it doesn’t cost a lot but brings so much value to the phone. A lot of people who saw the phone in my hands have often asked what phone it was just because of a glance they had at the back.
That’s a whole lot of extrinsic value.
I used the rear camera much more and it performs quite well. I tried to take very upclose photos as well as some photos outdoor.
I did a few selfies (not sharing because I haven’t had a shave in all of this lockdown).
See some of the shots from below:
Rich colour tones
Details? See the two ants around the camera lens.
Some Phots taken by the TECNO Spark 5
The four cameras at the rear of the Spark 5 are a Depth lens, a 13MP Primary Camera with F/1.8 aperture, a Macro lens and an AI lens.
Each one has unique functions. For example in the shots above, the rich colour tones of the photo taken at KNUST were optimised by the AI Camera.
In fact, the AI camera can detect a variety of scenes and optimise photos for them. This includes HDR and different scenes.
When it comes to the Operating System, this new version of HiOS was very stable for the time that I used the device.
There was minimal lag, even when playing Asphalt 8 on the phone. The game run smoothly and the screen was just enough to enjoy.
When it comes to the battery, it performed just as expected. On the days when I had more work to do and was just on social media, it lasted the whole day.
On the days where I was gaming heavily (more than 3 hours), I needed to charge up when I got back home – around 5pm.
All this while, the phone has been on WiFi.
So if you are really going to get this phone, you don’t need to worry about battery performance.
While writing this, I set up the screen lock and face unlock on the phone. They both worked so well.
However, for me, the sweetest thing is the fingerprint sensor at the rear of the phone.
Call me old school, but I find it so convenient. There are various lock options – the fingerprint, face unlock and basic pin/password lock.
You also have Google My Protect so should you lose your phone, you have a chance to use it to find out where it may be at.
RAM and Storage on our review unit was 2GB and 32GB respectively. After installing most of the apps I use on a daly basis, there was 730MB of RAM remaining.
The SPARK 5 is available in all shops in Ghana at the recommended retail price of GHS 719.
If you are looking for a beautiful phone that offers performance worthy of it’s price and a screen big enough to give you full enjoyment, look no further.
