    Features of the Infinix S4

    Design and Display

Looking at the front of the phone, the full view 6.2-inch Full HD+ display with the waterdrop notch is at once noticeable. A closer look at the front also reveals the camera embedded inside the notch.

Looking behind the phone, the glossy look is evident with the camera sensors and fingerprint sensors taking their place at the top right corner rear and just above the Infinix logo on the S4.

Just like most Infinix phones nowadays, the S4 has the power and volume adjustment buttons on the right-hand side.

    Battery

The Infinix S4 comes with a non-removable 4000 mAH battery. Officially, standby times have not been released.

However, judging from the performance of other Infinix Phones, the battery should be able to last a full day after a 100% charge.

The S4 also supports fast charge so you can be sure to have your phone up and ready in a short period of time. No need to do an overnight charging of the device.

    Camera

The camera set up of the Infinix S4 is likely what a lot of prospective buyers are most interested in at this point.

Firstly,  it is important to note again that it is the first Infinix phone to sport a triple camera set up at the rear.

The rear camera lenses of the S4 are aligned vertically and below them is a Quad-LED flash for effective subject illumination where the existing lightening is not enough.

Housed in the water-drop notch on the front is a 32MP selfie camera. The camera comes with the following features: Portrait mode, Auto-HDR, Geo-tagging, Touch focus, Face detection, Panorama and 1080P @ 30fps.

    Performance

The Infinix S4 is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC with four cores of the Cortex-A53 processor clocking up to a speed of 2.2GHz. On the software side, it runs the latest Android 9.0 Pie with the latest version of the Infinix XOS Skin – v5.0 Cheetah

The gamers and high graphics users are not left out with a PowerVR GE8320 GPU on board to support all gaming needs at a reasonable speed and quality.

Specs Comparison – Infinix S4 vs Huawei Y7 Prime (2019) vs Samsung Galaxy A20

Admittedly, I have not had any hands-on experience with either of the devices whose specs we’re going to be comparing today. However, that won’t stop us from tearing down the specifications of each device side by side in a bid to try and demystify which one deserves your hard-earned cash.

Like every other specs comparison, we miss out on the actual experience of the device as some might feel better than others, be heavier than others and maybe one doesn’t look as good in person as in pictures but all in all.

Here is a specs comparison of the Infinix S4, Huawei Y7 Prime (2019) and the Samsung Galaxy A20:

    Verdict

The truth is, the Infinix S4 is the clear overall winner especially when it comes to the cameras and price – which undercuts the competition in this segment. However, as good as things look, Infinix user experience has proven to be a pain in the past with the company introducing ads within its home screen in the form of app suggestions, something that has not pleased a lot of users.

If you are looking for a better software experience with a little sacrifice on the camera performance, the Samsung Galaxy A20 should be your choice. Samsung’s new UI is really intuitive and the company has made the right steps into improving their user experience. As mentioned, the only problem will be the cameras, to be specific, the selfie camera.

As for the Huawei Y7 Prime (2019), there’s really nothing good going for it compared to the two. Actually, the device seems to be lagging behind thanks to its outdated software and on top of that, it commands the highest price. Unfortunate for the Huawei device, even its beautiful design that we would have praised as a selling point, has been replicated on the Infinix S4.

  • The newest features in Infinix’s XOS 5 Cheetah, premiered on the Hot S4

The newest features in Infinix’s XOS 5 Cheetah, premiered on the Hot S4

One new thing about the Infinix Hot S4 is the new version of Infinix Mobile’s XOS it came with – XOS 5 Cheetah.

It is the first time we have seen the XOS 5 Cheetah in action and today, we take a look at the OS and how the future looks for other Infinix devices.

The new XOS User Interface, although unique, still has the familiar Infinix XOS feel and look. So it won’t be that difficult to know you are holding an Infinix phone, and that’s by no means a bad thing.

Let’s look at the newest features in XOS 5 Cheetah:

    Video Chats with AI

We all love video calls nowadays, with our smartphones enabling us to now seamlessly connect via Video and faster network connections making these connections fluid. With WhatsApp, Telegram, Skype etc, smartphone users now make video calls more than ever.

The real problem with video calls is that there are usually no filters and the other party sees your image just as it is. For people who use filters a lot, this is usually undesirable and something which will prevent them from even having video calls.

XOS 5 Cheetah tackles this issue by incorporating AI Beauty mode in video calls. Now, when you make video calls, you can easily look younger, brighter and fresher.

    New AI Read Mode

For those who find reading difficult, then the new XOS 5 is just what should make ready a little less stressful on the eye. XOS 5 has an inbuilt artificial intelligence powered read mode.

The AI Read Mode manages and adjusts the screen brightness and colour temperature to make reading more comfortable to the eye. This feature is more of the Eye Care mode on older versions, just a little smarter than it’s predecessor.

    New Icon Design

When it comes to customisation, a lot of Android Users don’t really pay attention to it. A good reason why I love Android is the ability to customise almost anything at any time. For those who are into customisation, then there is something in XOS 5 Cheetah for you.

There is a new icon pack in XOS 5 that provides a refreshing, beautiful and elegant look at the OS. The design of the new icons makes it more attractive. For the customisation freaks, maybe you should enjoy this icon pack for a while and see if you would love it.

However, not all app icons are supported although a lot of the popular apps have been covered.

XOS 5 Cheetah Intelligent Voice Notifications

In the era of Assistants, XOS 5 Cheetah brings users voice notifications. You can now set an assistant to broadcast you’re the weather forecast, schedules, calls and messages and social media notifications. Basically, all the messages you care about read out loud to you.

I find it very heartbreaking running to unlock my phone when I hear the notification tone only to find its nothing important, and I am not alone. These intelligent voice notifications are a great addition. They are currently available in English, French and Hindi languages.

    Intelligent notification management

There are those notifications that we never open but always swipe away one by one to reduce the clutter. However, the new XOS Cheetah has used some machine learning to know exactly what notifications you don’t want to see often and stack them away.

The intelligent notification management in XOS 5 Cheetah recognizes and sorts spam or undesired message notifications and groups them into a single category that can be blocked.

    Smart Photo cleanup

Most people now use smartphones to take photos of precious memories with friends and family. We tend to take a lot of pics just so we choose a few good ones. Some tend to be overexposed, dark, blurry and identical. XOS 5 Cheetah categorizes photos into the dark, blurry and similar pics to enable you to delete and keep only the best versions of your memories. This is a great way to save the much-needed space on your phone.

    Smart Panel

The new XOS bring a Smart Panel which has all your favourite & frequently-used features and localization services. You can access the smart panel from any screen. You can take a selfie from a smart panel within just 2 steps enabling you to capture all the beautiful moments.

There are lots of other things you can do with the Smart Panel like Scan and Pay. It is basically a tool that has the most used features, making them available on any screen in a few taps.

    Data switcher

XOS 5 Cheetah has introduced a data switcher toggle in the quick setting menu. This will enable you to easily switch the SIM card you want to use for data connections without digging up the feature in settings. Many people use multiple lines depending on who is giving more data at a particular time. In case you need to switch, it doesn’t have to be painful anymore with XOS 5.

    Privacy Protection

You might be thinking. What if there are lots of creepy apps that might be listening to your conversations by recording them? Well, the new XOS will help you curb the paranoia. When an app is using the microphone and you are not aware, XOS 5.0 will notify you with a pop-up message “XXX App is recording”, thus making sure you are in control of all recording processes. Happy now?

    Fingerprint password reset

With XOS 5.0 comes the fingerprint password rest option which solves the password amnesia problem. In the unfortunate event where you forget the password or PIN of your Infinix phone, you will now have the option to reset it using the fingerprint.

  • A look at the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro

A look at the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro

Its surprising how quickly Huawei has made its rise to power in the smartphone market even going as far as to surpass Apple as the second most successful company in 2018.

If you’ve used some of their premium phones (not the Y7 and its group) you’ll understand why this is so. The Mate 20 released last year was a beast in a phone and was satisfying to use. This year, Huawei has unveiled its successor to rival the Samsung Galaxy S10 and its the P30 Pro.

Huawei has always had some form of biannual releases which are the Mate series and the P series besides the other budget phones. This means they have a competitor to deal with the release of the Samsung Galaxy series and the another to compete when Google’s Pixel and Apple’s iPhone are released.

It’s a good strategy because the can work on the faults of the P series and also better technology would be available as the year is rounding up. This made last year’s Mate 20 Pro a real contender to deal with and considering the fact that they sold 10 million handsets of them in 5 months, it is pretty safe to call it a success.

Unveiled on the 26th of March, The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro are the latest to directly compete with the widely successful Galaxy S10. If you look at the spec sheet, you would realize they are in line too. They basically check all the boxes the Galaxy S10 checks but in terms of design, the Galaxy S10 goes for a hole punch whiles the P30’s go for the traditional teardrop notch. The only other difference might be the higher storage offered on the S10 and the camera setup.

However, the two premium phones are as similar as they are different. The P30 and P30 Pro are very similar looking with the majority of the features being the same. Both devices have the same Kirin 980 Processor (Huawei’s own Processor) and have the same design with the P30 Pro having a curved display while the P30 is flat. Both have an optical in-display fingerprint sensor and the same 32-megapixel camera. In terms of software, they both run the same EMUI experience.

The difference between them is what sets them $200 apart and that can be summed into wireless charging, headphone jack and cameras.

As for the headphone jack, its a matter of self-preference and with the emergence of wireless earpieces such as the airpods and the Galaxy buds, it’s getting tough to justify its use. Wireless charging is becoming an integral part of our lives(well maybe not Ghana) and its convenient to use.

Again this comes to personal use, if you’ve spent over 50 dollars in a 3rd party wireless charger it’ll be hard to justify the switching to a phone that doesn’t support wireless charging. The time of flight sensor is the difference between the two in the camera department. The time of flight sensor is a depth sensor that enhances portrait mode.

Talking about cameras, the night mode of the P30 is simply mind-blowing.

Despite having to hold the phone for 6 seconds before the shot is taken, the results are stunning even in pitch darkness. Last year’s P20 had a great night mode but this feature has been taken to another level. The P30 also has a periscope built in which offers 5x lossless zoom( the image wouldn’t lose detail between the 1x and 5x) and up to 50x digital zoom.

It also has an ultra-wide camera for the nature shots and a normal camera sensor but there are some differences with these as well. The P30’s triple camera system is made up of a 40-megapixel main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and an 8-megapixel zoom sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.

The P30 Pro has a 40-megapixel main sensor with an f/1.6 aperture, a 20-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and an 8-megapixel zoom sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. A pixel overload for this phone it seems.

The new phone signify Huawei’s ambition to dominate the smartphone market in the coming years. The P30 starts at £699 (GHS 4055) for the 6GB/128GB version whiles the P30 Pro starts at P30: From From £899 (GHS 5216) for the 8GB/128Gb version.

  • How to spot a genuine/fake Infinix Smartphone or Battery

How to spot a genuine/fake Infinix Smartphone or Battery

There are many things that come with buying a new phone especially the MediaTek phones. Buying a smartphone comes with more technicalities and a whole lot of things. Most people end up buying a phone replicate thinking is an original. With the invention of the smartphone, there come new brands of phones on the market. Some are originals whiles others are fakes/replicas.

If you are considering buying a new Infinix smartphone then you have to know that there are a lot of Infinix phones out there, both the original and the replicate ones. Most smartphone outlets in the country today sell the different model of Infinix smartphones.

As a buyer, it is always good to know some of the features to look out for when you are on a course to buying your brand new smartphone.

If you are reading this post, then you are going to see how to check whether the Infinix phone you are to buy or you already bought is a replica or original.

The below steps you are going to see are what I and most of my tech guys use to determine the originality of every Infinix smartphone we come in contact with. So without wasting any time let’s begin.

To determine whether the Infinix phone you are to buy or using is original or fake you will need three things from that phone:

    1. The IMEI number
    2. VC of the phone
    3. Battery serial number.

You can check the IMEI of every smartphone by going to Settings >> About Phone >> Status >> IMEI information and you will get it. Or you can dial *#06#, which is a universal code for checking IMEI.

The VC number can be found beneath the battery or on the battery.

The battery serial number can also be seen on the unit (the battery) itself.

Once you have these three things then you are now ready, to begin with, your checkup.

    Steps To Follow:

First of all, make sure you have an internet connection and then open your web browser either on your smartphone or a laptop. Once your browser is open, type in the URL (http://gc.infinixmobility.com/) in the address box of your browser.

Once you are on the site, you will be required to enter the IMEI, the VC and the serial number of the phone you want to check.

4 affordable phones you should buy in Ghana now

Tech is the fastest growing industry in the world and much of it is courtesy of the Smartphone market. The smart-phone market is essentially divided into 3 parts.

The high-end (premium) is the highest point with prices $900 and above and is mostly dominated by Apple, Samsung (S and Note series) and Google with the Mate 20 making an entrance for Huawei.

The mid-range market is between $300-$500/$600 with the Chinese companies (Huawei, Oppo, Oneplus, Vivo) holding sway. The low end is $150 to $300 with a huge number of companies with Xiaomi in the lead.

The low-end market is flooded because of the number of buyers in India and Africa who can’t pay $1000 for the new flagships. Ghana as a country belongs to the low end with Infinix, Techno and Samsung being our primary providers.

With a variety of phones at our disposal, here are some of the best bargains we can get.

    Huawei Y7 Prime (2019)

First on the list is the Huawei Y7 Prime (2019) which was launched recently.

It was launched with 3 GB of ram and 32GB of storage for GHS 829 which are standard pricing but the company is offering a free 32 Gb memory card (which can be added to the internal storage) for the meantime which is the reason it is on this list.

64 GB of storage is usually in the GHS 1000 range so Huawei offering the SD card alongside the phone make it a real deal.

It also comes with a dual camera setup, a headphone jack and 4000 mA of battery power. With a notched housing its front camera, the clean look of the Y7 prime coupled with its price make it a very competitive bargain.

    Samsung M20 Pro

Another phone with the notch is Samsung’s answer to Xiaomi, the M20 Pro.

Launched earlier in the year, the M20 comes with the standard set of low budget specs. 3 GB of RAM, 32 Gb of storage and a massive 5000 mA of battery power.

The extra 1000 mA of battery juice gives you 20% battery life and whiles my 4000 mA phone can last an entire day, the M20 finishes the day with over 30% of battery still remaining.

It has a type C USB port which is new for a device at this price point. Another cool feature is the ultra-wide camera which is a great addition.

It starts at GHS 750 with the 4GB/64Gb version selling at GHS 950.

    Xiaomi Note 6

The Xiaomi Note 6 was released last year with the usual 3 GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a 4000 mA battery all going for GHS 750.

But its lack of defining features is made up by its performance. Its Snapdragon 636 is more than enough to offer a smooth experience even after 6 months of use.

Its the only phone on the list with a full-sized notch but the 1080p screen is full of bright colours which are enough to compensate for the screen loss. It has a 4GB/ 64GB which are is offered for GHS 1000.

    Samsung M30

The phone with perhaps the best bargain is the Samsung M30. Its the best of all the 4 phones for 2 reasons but the 6 Gb of RAM and 128 Gb of RAM is what draws me to the phone.

It is rare to see a variant of the phone offering these specs albeit at this level of the market. The other reason is the triple camera setup which includes both an ultra-wide camera and a depth sensor camera for those sharp and clear portrait modes.

Like its counterpart (M20) it comes with USB Type C and 5000 mA. The included 15 mW charger fills the battery in about 2 hours. It sells at GHS 1100 for the 4GB/64GB and GHS 1250 for the higher version.

If you are looking for a midrange phone then without a doubt these are undoubtedly your best bargains.
