New WhatsApp Dark Mode: How to Enable on all Android devices and iOS 13

WhatsApp messenger has finally rolled out it’s long-awaited Dark Mode feature for Android and iOS users across the world.

The Dark Mode feature, which is WhatsApp’s biggest feature update this year has been in testing for well over a year now.

With the new update, everyone can update their apps from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store to enjoy the new feature.

Before the update, most WhatsApp users on Android were using a black-themed modded WhatsApp to mimic what a true dark mode will look like

The new WhatsApp dark mode has more of a dark grey tone rather than a black background that many had anticipated.

WhatsApp users on Android 10 and iOS 13 can get the new WhatsApp Dark Mode by enabling the Dark Mode in their system settings.

Apart from looking nice to most people, Dark Mode gives users the option to change the theme of the app to something that minimises eye fatigue, as opposed to a brighter background.

This change will be most appreciated in low light areas and in the evenings especially.

How to enable WhatsApp Dark Mode on Android

    1. Go to the Google Play Store on your phone and install the latest version of WhatsApp
    2. Once the updated WhatsApp version is installed, tap on the three-dot menu icon on the top right and select Settings.
    3. Tap on Chats to go into the chat settings.
    4. Tap on Theme and it will give you an option to choose the theme for the app.
    5. Tap on Dark and you are all set to use WhatsApp Dark Mode.
    6. You will also find a System default option when you tap on Theme which will automatically switch between light and dark mode according to the default system settings.

This manual method is not available for iOS 13 users.

WhatsApp Dark Mode is now available for all iOS 13 users.

Bad news for all iPhone users who do not have iOS 13 as they will not be able to experience WhatsApp’s Dark Mode.

How to enable WhatsApp Dark Mode on iOS

    • Visit App Store on your iPhone and download the latest version of WhatsApp
    • Go to Settings on the phone and find the Display & Brightness option.
    • Tap on Dark to enable system-wide Dark Mode.
    • Alternatively, you can go to the Control Centre and tap on Dark Mode.

    Conclusion

WhatsApp’s Dark Mode update is slowly rolling out to all users and will take a few days to reach everyone

Remember to share with your friends and enjoy the new Dark Mode. If you have any issues, just restart your phone and make sure you don’t have any pending system updates.

Ghana stops manual Passport Application; Only online process works now

Starting today, 1st March 2020, Ghanaians will no longer be able to use the manual passport application process.

This is because the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has stopped the use of manual passport application platform.

Don’t worry, you can still apply for a Ghana passport by following the online process here.

An earlier release from the Ministry has directed passport applicants to use the online passport application platform, passport.mfa.gov.gh to submit their applications.

“The measure will enhance service delivery to the Ghanaian public,” the notice stated.

It also noted that the online passport application is now available at all Passport Application Centres. This latest reform follows Parliament approving an upward review of passport application fees in February.

Here are the new prices of Passport Related Services in Ghana:

Application Type Booklet Pages Price (GHS)
    Standard Application 32 100.00
    Standard Application 48 150.00
    Expedited Application 32 150.00
    Expedited Application 48 200.00
    Attestation of Legal Documents 37.50
    Travel Certificate 37.50

Ghana also extended the validity period of the country’s ordinary passport booklets from five years back to 10 years.

The extension followed complaints by some Ghanaians that the five-year validity period was too short. The new extension will help reduce queues at the passport application centres in the long run.

  • Best Innovations of CES 2020

    Best Innovations of CES 2020

The Consumer Electronic Show is known for all kinds of bizarre concepts and 2020 was no different. Regardless of the fact that we won’t actually use all these devices, it is nice to see what companies have been up to and what life could be in an alternate universe. The main highlights of this year’s show were focused on smart home integration, cars and TV’s.

Samsung’s selfie type is something of a cool feature or gimmick depending on how you look at it. It allows you to type on a flat surface by using the selfie camera to track movements of your hand and transfer it to a standard Qwerty keyboard.

As at now, it works only in English with more languages promised if it’s a hit. Samsung also released Ballie robot shaped like a ball, which connects all the smart devices you have in your home, a potential fitness assistant, scheduler, and remote control for mobile devices. In addition, they released a number of 8K TV’s and a TV without a bezel and rotating smart TV called Sero. Sero can also show content for streaming apps like Youtube and social media sites like TikTok and Instagram by rotating into a phone like the design.

Mercedes unveiled a concept car that looked like a sneak peek into the world of Avatar. The car has scales which are bionic flaps which can communicate information to the driver about the surrounding environment. The front and rear axles of the car can be driven in the same or opposite direction allowing the car to move sideways like a crab in addition to forward or backward motion.

Sony also revealed an electric car which has no intentions of selling to the general public. They decided to furnish the car with all the different technology they have made so far and then contacted an automobile company to do the rest so instead of rearview mirrors it has cameras, radar systems for self-driving, computer systems with its own UI.

Too bad it won’t be released, it had a really nice design. They also announced the PS5 which future proof techs such as 3D audio sound, haptic triggers, 8k support and ultra-high-speed SSD for quick loading times.

LG also brought the heat to CES with their home use technology. Proactive Customer Care service which is an IA powered solution to connect all the smart devices. By using machine learning, it provides personalized solutions, learns habits and offers maintenance tips.

They also showed a fridge which can show its contents when you knock, an oven which can show cooking status without opening the door and give you tips while you cook. They also displayed 8 new TV’s which have an 8k resolution and have an AI processor which can enhance particular scenes and faces to improve the viewing experience. The was a wine cellar on show which could adjust the temperature for every single wine bottle and also had the knock to see through feature. In my opinion it’s just a bragging right and a pretty good one at that.

CES 2020 showed us a glimpse for the decade and it looks exciting to say the least.
