Ghana’s Top eCommerce Companies Vie for “Best Online Retailer” Award

Sixteen eCommerce Websites are vying for the bragging rights as Ghana’s Best Online Retailer of the Year at the upcoming maiden Ghana eCommerce Awards scheduled for Accra on 30th November under the theme, “Celebrating Excellence and Innovation in Ghana’s Online Business Industry”. This prestigious awards is organized by OML Africa, leaders in high profile corporate events since 2010.

A roll call of this important category is arguably a list of the best e-commerce platforms in Ghana made up of Zoobashop, Jumia, Tonaton, Electromart, Huxley Black (myazugu.com), Bernard and Associates (mallghana.com), Kikuu and Melcomonline.

    Others are Superprice.com, Africa eCommerce Group (mumandchild.com), Africakart.com, pizarea.com, ahwenepa.com, Rosefabricsgh.com, Ann’s Web and Graphics and Inventelectronics.com.

Nominations were submitted either directly from a company, from an involved individual, or from a third party. In the event that a third party nominates a company or individual, the organizers contact the nominated company or individual and ask the nominee to review the nomination for accuracy and, if necessary, provide any missing documentation.

According to a spokesman of the organizers, “The Best Online Retailer of the Year, arguably the most enviable category at this year’s Ghana eCommerce Awards, is open to new and established online retailers who demonstrate best practice in merchandising, service, functionality and customer experience. Judging will be based not on overall size but on efficiency, ingenuity, dedication to customer experience and proven business success.”

He added, “Some other criteria guiding judges for this top category are quality of products sold, payment options, return policies, usability/ site navigation, downloading speed, security, customer reviews, contact support, etc. To be crowned the king of all eCommerce Websites of the Year in Ghana, the winner should also satisfy a public vote by SMS. This constitutes 40% of the total verdict with the hand-picked panel of judges having 60%”.

The Ghana eCommerce Awards will also have nearly 30 award winners on the night set aside to identify, celebrate and reward outstanding individuals and organizations who have blazed the trail and shown excellence and innovation in Ghana’s online business industry. Online merchants, online retailers, fintechs, digital payments, courier services and other stakeholders of this burgeoning online industry are expected to throng the plush Alisa Hotel in a night of healthy competition, fun, food and great entertainment.

Some other competitive award categories up for grabs include Best New Online Retailer, Best Site Optimization and Design, Best Mobile eCommerce Experience, Best E-Government Experience, Best Innovation in eCommerce (Payments), Best Online Taxi, Best Mobile Banking App, and Best eCommerce Payment Company/Fintech.

Others are Best Online Real Estate of the Year, Best Online Food Delivery Platform of the Year, Best Bitcoin Company of the Year, Best Online Hotel Booking Site of the Year, Best Mobile eCommerce Experience, Best Multi-Channel Retailer, Best Delivery/Courier (eCommerce), etc.

One of the key highlights of this year’s Ghana eCommerce Awards night is who will be inducted into Ghana’s eCommerce Hall of Fame based on their pioneering role in the development of the industry.

  • How to apply and receive Ghanaian Passport in a month [Form Included]

How to apply and receive Ghanaian Passport in a month [Form Included]

Update: From November 2018, the offline process of the application for a Ghanaian passport has been partially taken online. This involves downloading the passport application form for free in PDF.

We will update you the process for acquiring the passport form for free. Remember that process required you to pay a processing fee of either GHS 50 or GHS 100.

The Online Ghana Passport Application method was introduced in 2017.

The Application took an online turn when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration launched an online passport application service for Ghanaians to ease the mode of the application while ensuring maximum security for applicants.

Since then, there has been a lot of talk about the process, with some Ghanaian been sceptical about the whole “online application” process.

I personally like the online process because of the integration with Mobile Payment solutions. This means that I don’t have to even go to the bank to buy a pin for the online form. Wonderful!

    What is a Passport?

A passport is an official document issued by a government, certifying the holder’s identity and citizenship and entitling them to travel under its protection to and from foreign countries.

Without a passport, it is almost impossible to travel between Countries and or Jurisdictions.

How was the Ghana Passport Application done before the introduction of the online process?

Before the introduction of the Ghana Passport Application Online, applicants had to buy a form and fill. This was a very tedious process because most of the requirements were not easy to understand.

The grim nature of the application process led to a lot of Middle Men. Although some of the Middle Men were genuine, a lot of them were fake and often squandered the money of unsuspecting applicants.

In the worst case, the Middle Men would deliver fake passports to applicants, especially prior to the biometric passport usage in Ghana. Although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs introduced the Bio-metric Passport registration, middlemen and other con men were not deterred.

They have continued to “operate” thus far under different stratagems.

Another negative of the former application process was that it led to a lot of queues at the Passport Application Centres which often led to fights and disorganisation with a lot of pressure on passport office workers.

Can you apply for a Ghanaian Passport through the old method too?

The Passport Application is not solely online. The “old” method of applying for a Passport will continue to be used alongside this new one.

This would enable applicants who are not comfortable with the new system to go through the old one. It is not clear when the Old System will be phased out, but that would not be anytime soon.

However, a lot of people have reported that at GCB Bank, the could not get the “Old Forms”. This is an indication that the process may be fully online by the end of 2018.

Is the Whole Process of the Online Ghana Passport Application fully Online now?

No! The whole process is not online. After completing the online part of the application, you would book an appointment with the application centre in Accra to complete the process.

  • Infinix Hot 6X (2018): Price, Full Specs, Features & Best Deals

Infinix Hot 6X (2018): Price, Full Specs, Features & Best Deals

After their widespread social media campaign with the #SeeEverything hashtag, Infinix Mobility has finally unveiled the Infinix Hot 6X and it is finally available in stores.

I have already done an article on the unboxing and first impressions of the Hot 6X.

The Infinix Hot 6X differs a lot from the earlier Infinix Hot 6 and Hot 6 pro when it comes to looks, feel and general aesthetics.

The Hot 6X will be available in all authorized Infinix retail stores in the following colour variants: Midnight Black, Champagne Gold, Kent Blue, and Bordeaux Red.

Key Specifications of the Infinix Hot 6X

Display Type  HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen
    Size  6.2-inch
    Primary Camera  13MP + 2MP
Secondary Camera  5MP (with low light and AI selfie)
    Operating System  Android 8.1 Oreo
User Interface (UI)  XOS 3.0 Hummingbird
    Chipset (SoC)  Qualcomm Snapdragon 425
    RAM (Memory)  2GB
    Internal Storage  16GB
    Battery Capacity  4000mAh
    Face ID  Yes

Features of the Infinix Hot 6X

A Hot Notch, More Screen Space

What’s most recognisable on the phone is the screen notch which has been taken from the Hot S3X. The notch gives more screen size to the user. The Infinix Hot 6X is the second phone from Infinix to sport the notch.

When you measure the Infinix Hot 6 Pro’s screen and you compare it to that of the new Hot 6X, you realise there is a screen gain of 0.2 inches which ultimately takes the 6X’s screen size to 6.2 inches.

The screen of the phone has a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels like the Hot 6 Pro. However, the bezels of the phone have been made slimmer, hence a 19:9 aspect ratio.

The screen also has a 1500:1 contrast ratio and packs 500 nits brightness.

AI Selfie Camera with low light shots

Embedded in the Hot 6X’s notch is an 8-megapixels f/2.0 aperture selfie camera with specials features like Face ID and AI Beauty mode as well as a flashlight.

The camera also promises to deliver quality selfies in low light situations. Therefore if you are in a space with limited lighting and you still want to take a selfie, the photos will be of much better quality.

The dual rear camera comes in 13MP (f/1.8) + 2MP (f/2.4) primary and secondary lens configuration respectively.

The dual camera setup supports Portrait mode which will add reasonable Bokeh effects to your photos when activated.

    Face ID; Faster Unlock Technology

The new Infinix Hot 6X also has a Face Unlock feature.

Unlike in the Infinix S3 where an OTA update was rolled out for the feature, it came with the OS in the Hot 6X.

You can enable “Face Unlock” feature just after you set up the phone. Infinix Hot S6X users can manually enable this new software feature by going to Settings and click on Security & location, then selecting Face ID.

  • Why BoostPal may come come back after scamming thousands of people

Why BoostPal may come come back after scamming thousands of people

Boostpal went offline on Saturday, 27th October after we had requested payment on 26th October.

Mind you, I also requested for $50 withdrawal and haven’t been paid till now.

    Why BoostPal may return

Boostpal may return because the site went offline for a couple of days (perhaps 2) in August 2018 and obviously returned and has subsequently gone offline many times.

Besides information reaching me is that they came back on Saturday but the site was too slow and hence, went back offline.

On Sunday, people said it came back with an apology saying they had some technical issues and it would be fixed by today 29th October 2018.

It is however still offline at the time of this writing.

Furthermore, a few people have been circulating some pictures of payment proof from 28th October 2018 which shows payment to some entities.

From these images, the emails were from [email protected].

I, however, haven’t directly seen any payment made to any other member I know.

If these are all true, we can hope Boostpal will return.

    Why Boostpal may never return

Boostpal may not return because payments that were supposed to be made on Friday has not been issued till now (at least I have not seen a concrete proof) and the site is still offline.

Secondly, two other sites that run on boostpal’s script has been launched: www.viewdime.com (closed at the moment) and www.dewtours.com.

Mfidie.com attests to the fact that viewdime had the email ‘[email protected]’ on their site.

To investigate, I have personally downloaded the script of dewtours and found boostpal’s logos in it. In fact, you don’t even need a brain to know dewtours and boostpal are same.

They probably launched this one to scam more people.

Thirdly, Boostpal may have disabled withdrawals on Tuesdays before they went offline to accumulate as much money as they could.

They even added a new upgrade package which meant more upgrades to maximize the amount accumulated.

I personally saw some upgrades being done on the Thursday and Friday before Boostpal went offline but perhaps it was all to convince people to invest their cash.

There has been a post by www.news7pm.com claiming boostpal have acquired offices in Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya; The site is a satire site and as such stories from there cannot be taken seriously.

I had a whole lot of reasons that made me trust Boostpal and hence my comments on beermoneyforum, etc.

It’s worthless explaining myself now anyway.

I honestly hope Boostpal returns per their claim, not because of me but all those other people who lost their money because of my comments.

As told by alihamtech, an investor in boostpal.

  • Infinix Hot 6X: Unboxing and First Impressions | Beauty; Notch; Face ID

Infinix Hot 6X: Unboxing and First Impressions | Beauty; Notch; Face ID

The Infinix Hot 6X is the latest phone from Infinix, as they look to bring a variety to consumers on the market.

The notch is undoubtedly the trendy design of this year and OEMs like Infinix are looking to bring the notch design to not just high-end phones but also their midrange and lower end devices. So it’s no surprise that the first recognisable feature you see on the Infinix 6X is the notch.

However, the phone also promises other great things like a 2-day battery life, low light selfies and Face ID.

    Unboxing the Infinix 6X

The Infinix Hot 6X is packaged in a colourful orange box with the visible Infinix branding.

When you open the box, the first thing you see is the phone, with the notch clearly cut out to give you a feel of what you are in for.

The phone itself is also covered with a foil with has the major specs/features of the phone stated out.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8P9tDwjBra4

    In the Box:

    • 1 Screen Protector
    • 1 3.5mm earphone jack
    • 1 USB Cable
    • 1 Power Adapter
    • 1 User Guide
    • 1 Customer Experience Card
    • 1 Warranty Card
    • 1 Translucent Case
    • 1 Sim Ejector

Pretty much everything needed to get started and enjoy your Infinix Hot 6X is in the box.

The translucent case is a perfect fit for the 6X. To prevent slips, the lower part of the case has been designed to be parallelly grainy.

The phone itself looks very classy from the back with a dual camera set up and a more stylish rectangular-ish fingerprint sensor conveniently placed where the finger can reach.

The finish is also not so glossy like other models, so you probably won’t leave your fingerprints all over the back when you are not using the phone case.

The phone comes with an already applied 2 piece screen protector. Once you take the phone out, you will have to remove the first screen protector to be left with the real one.

The USB cable is pretty standard.
