Who wins the Esoko “Best Online Food Delivery Platform of the Year” Award?

Esoko is powering rural communities through digital transformation and financial inclusion. Our solutions include mobile and web-based tools for data collection coupled with field deployment; an SMS/voice-based communication platform for farmer management; and an electronic extension mobile and web app.

Esoko started in 2005 as an experiment to see how the emergence of mobile technology in Africa, could improve the lives of rural communities across the continent.

The first project enabled the delivery of market prices via SMS, in support of work that FoodNet was doing with MTN in Uganda. Over time Esoko realized farmers needed much more than price information, and added weather alerts, crop advice, and linking buyers with sellers. Various research finds such services can improve incomes for farmers by roughly 10%.

Esoko sponsors the “Best Online Food Delivery Platform of the Year” category at the Ghana eCommerce Awards on the 30th November at Swiss Spirit Alisa Hotel.

3-Day Sanitation Hackathon held in Accra

Dubbed, the “Sanitation Hackathon,” the competition brought together programme developers, Information Technology specialists and sanitation advocates, to come up with digital solutions on how to effectively and efficiently manage the country’s waste management problems.

Held on the theme: “Managing waste through hacking,” the event was put together by the ministry with support from the World Bank.

The contest received 300 applications, out of which 35 teams were selected for the final stage, which was organised from November 17 to 19, 2018 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The participants, judges and some officials from the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources

The various teams made presentations on their developed mobile Apps and defended why their Apps could help address the sanitation challenges in the country.

At the end of the competition, the first placed team, which developed an App called “Nsuo” received US$5,000, tablets, and a six-month data package from Surfline.

The second and third-placed teams, Beamers and Sani-GH received US$3,000 and US$2,000 respectively in addition to tablets and six months data packages from Surfline.

Also, teams that displayed commitment and creativity in their works were honoured with special awards. They were Team Kijani, Smart Team and Sani-GH Team.

While Team Kijani was awarded the Most Innovative Solution, Smart Team and Sani-GH were awarded the Promising Solution and Good Teamwork respectively.

In a speech read on her behalf, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Mrs Cecilia Abena Dapaah stressed the need for an increased awareness on safe disposal of human excreta through the use of improved household toilets.

She said as part of efforts to improve the sanitation situation in the country, the ministry through the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) Sanitation and Water Project, has constructed 13,500 household toilets, adding that the project “is expected to construct an additional 7,000 toilets by the middle of 2019.”

Mrs Dapaah further indicated that the GAMA project would construct 406 institutional toilets in 246 schools across the Greater Accra Region to ensure that open defecation is eradicated in the beneficiary schools.

Touching on the competition, she said, the ministry “in collaboration with the World Bank and Information Technology Partners is organizing the Sanitation Hackathon to leverage on technology to solve some of the sanitation challenges” in the country.

“Technology is playing a significant role in addressing some of the developmental challenges in the country,” Mrs Dapaah said, noting that “Integrating Information Technology in sanitation is, therefore, a step in the right direction.”

She, however, called on the media to galvanize support for the ministry to reach the majority of Ghanaians with the needed messages that “will bring about change in the attitudes, behaviour and practices which are the bane of the sanitation challenges we are currently facing as a country.”

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Sanitation, Mr Anthony Mensah commended the contestants for their dedication and innovativeness in coming out with digital solutions to the country’s sanitation challenges, particularly on how to manage solid waste.

He said the ministry would critically examine all the best ideas that were offered by the participating teams as part of the goal of making the country the cleanest city in Africa.

The participants, judges and some officials from the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources

The Chief Executive Officer of the Soronko Academy, Regina Honu, who chaired the judges for the competition, said all the ideas presented by the various teams were good and therefore urged the participants not to relent on their efforts in helping the country to solve its sanitation problems.

  • Review: EaseUS Data Recovery | The only data recovery software you need

Review: EaseUS Data Recovery | The only data recovery software you need

Have you ever been in a situation where you needed a file so badly but realised you had lost it due to accidental deletion or formatting of the storage device? Well, you don’t have to worry anymore. I have good news for you.

I’m going to introduce you to the EaseUS data recovery software. The software specialises in hard drive recovery as well as the recovery of data on other media.

There is a free version which allows up to two gigabytes of recovered data and the pro version with unlimited data recovery on one PC.

EaseUS data recovery is an easy to use data recovery software that allows you to easily recover lost data from a wide range of storage media. It also has a straightforward user-friendly interface to ensure an efficient and smooth operation for the most novice user.

You can recover your data caused by accidental deletion, reformatted discs, emptying the recycle bin, lost of partition, damaged hard disk due to windows crashes and viruses and even after windows have been restored with a 95% success rate.

You cannot go wrong easy as EaseUS recovery wizard can detect over 200 file types, which include, but is not limited to videos, music, documents, emails, pictures and so forth.

How to recover files with EaseUS Data Recovery

    Download the software

The first step is to download the software. You can get it for free on the official site of EaseUS. The software is available for both Windows and Mac OS.

In our tests, we used the windows version. A look at the MacOS version showed that they both versions of the software have the same look and feel.

However, note that the free version of the software enables you to recover up to 500MB of Data. I recommend you go for the paid version as that gives you a lifetime license and you can use the software for as many times as you want.

After successfully installing the software, you would be greeted with the screen above. Like I mentioned earlier, it is very easy to navigate around the software. Let’s now look at how to recover data.

    Using EaseUS to recover data

The first thing I did was to upgrade the software with a lifetime license. There is a discount running so you get the lifetime license for $69.95 instead of the usual $89.95.

After upgrading, the screen now looks like this:

Also, notice the hard disks listed above. The software is able to recognise all the partitions on my laptop, even the Linux partitions (shown in orange).

For the sake of testing, I would plug in another Flash Drive which I have been using for a while now.

I recently formatted it to install Linux on a friend’s laptop. Right after I was done, I formatted it back and haven’t used it since.

EaseUS instantly notices that a new device has been plugged in and displays it.

To scan it, I select the hard disk and choose scan at the lower right corner of the screen.

EaseUS instantly starts working on the drive. It’s not long before it starts listing some of the files it has already discovered.

In the image below, you would see that some of the files from the Linux installation have already been listed.

The screen also shows the time remaining which is quite accurate after scanning has been in progress for say 30 seconds.

There is also a count of the number of files found. The scan completed in about 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Overall, the EaseUS Recovery found 50339 files on the flash drive. Next, we look at how to retrieve the found files.

Recovering found files with EaseUS Data Recovery

I remember I had some images of pets on the drive. So I clicked on the filter button and chose “Graphics”. Next, I navigated through the folders on the right and chose the files I wanted. I still remember the file names.

Next, I select all the files I want to recover and just press the Recover button on the bottom right and it brings up a dialogue box for me to choose where to save the files.

I choose the folder I want to save it in and wait for EaseUS to do its magic.

It takes just a second to recover all of the files to the folder specified.

    Viewing your recovered files

Once all of the files you specified have been recovered, you just need to navigate to the folder and check them out.

Viola, there you have your recovered files.

    Conclusion

EaseUS is undoubtedly among the best hard drive recovery software and definitely the only one you need and should look to for all of your data recovery needs.

It has a quick scan time for you to quickly get access to your files and also recovers a lot of files, even files that have been deleted for a very long time.

When it comes to the user interface,  EaseUs Data Recovery has a well thought out file management system which offers directories and partitions. Sorting and searching for files is much easier, very fluid and doesn’t feel like a chore.

Jumia Black Friday 2018 – Enjoy up to 80% Discount on all items

Jumia Black Friday is happening from 16th November 2018 to 7th December 2018.

Originally, Black Friday is an American Tradition which is observed the day after Thanksgiving day where items are sold for little to no price. The tradition later spread to other parts of Europe.

Naturally, it has now become a global celebration (hence it’s relevance in Ghana) where prices of products are slashed by almost half their prices, some products are even discounted to an all-time low and you can get them for a ridiculously cheap price.

It, therefore, comes as no surprise that for the 4th year in a row, Jumia Ghana is bringing the Black Friday Festivities to consumers.

Jumia Black Friday 2018 Format and Festivities
