MTN Ghana has a whole lot of shortcodes for services in Ghana. For a lot of people, it’s just experimentation to try out which services work or which ones are nice.
The majority of people are mostly unimpressed with some of these services but are also unable to unsubscribe from them. Note that before now, the easiest way to stop a service was to send “STOP” to the shortcode that the service delivered messages or alerts on.
There comes a problem, however – more often than not, unsubscribing or stopping a service does not seem to work. Sending stop to the shortcode does not give any feedback, and hence there are no results. And there is also the issue of receiving messages from real sender IDs and not shortcodes. In this way, users find it difficult to stop services.

After Cambridge Analytica released a report regarding the access of millions of Facebook user’s data, people around the world were shocked to learn how much of their information was stored on the social media network. For the lot in Ghana, it doesn’t seem to be a big issue.
However, for those who are interested and are curious, there is a way to determine how much Facebook knows about you. Users can download and archive their own data from Facebook by going to their Facebook settings.

When it is, click “Download Archive” again, and a zip file will download to your computer.
Browse through that archive by opening each file inside the folder.

People on social media have been cheering for what some called long overdue representation. Emojis with hearing aids and using sign language, wheelchairs and white canes are among the proposed options for iPhones.
The proposal states that emojis “may not represent the experiences of those with disabilities,” but that diversifying emoji options “helps fill a significant gap and provides a more inclusive experience for all.”
One in seven people around the world has some type of disability, whether visible or not, according to the proposal.
According to the submission, the new emojis focus on four main categories – blind and low vision, deaf and hard of hearing, physical and motor skills, and hidden disabilities.
They include:

a man and woman walking with a cane
a guide dog
a prosthetic arm
a prosthetic leg
a man and woman signing they are deaf
a service dog
a man and woman in a manual wheelchair and
a man and woman in a mechanical wheelchair.
The move has been met with a lot of positive response on social media, with some people claiming it is long overdue.

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana has organised a Cyber Security Summit in Accra. The summit, which took place at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel, engaged top stakeholders in the banking and security sectors.
Technologies such as big data analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT), the blockchain, and mobile computing are reinventing the way companies, especially those in the financial and banking sectors handle everything, from decision making to customer service. The automation of virtually all business processes and the increasing digital connectedness of the entire value chain create agility, but they also significantly raise cybersecurity risks and threat levels.
The 3-hour event saw an educative and insightful panel discussion on cybersecurity issues at the government, institutional and end-user level which a focus on how to prevent and tackle the threats.
In attendance were representatives of the Police and telecommunications networks, as well as key stakeholders in the financial and security sectors of the country. Also invited and in attendance were students of the University of Ghana Business School and Ashesi University students.
The panel discussion was moderated by Bernard Avle. Panelists for the day were:

Prof. Nii Narku Quaynor, a scientist, and an engineer who has played an important role in the introduction and development of the Internet throughout Africa,
Sheikh Jobe, Chief Information Officer of Standard Chartered Bank, West Africa,
Hon. Vincent Sowah Odotei, Deputy Minister of Communication, and
Professor Nii Narku Quaynor confessed that “Globally, we do not know how to create systems that are bug-free”. Therefore, there was the need to raise awareness of cyber crimes and put risk mitigation plans in place at the various level of application usage and management.
Alex Bram of HubTel put forward that the first Cyber threat always comes from within an organisation. It was therefore imperative that when fighting against Cyber threats, start from within.
The Deputy Minister of Communication, Hon. Vincent Sowah Odotei expressed Government’s commitment to fighting cybercrime and stressed on the fact that the government takes such threats seriously. According to him, the Government has put a lot in place to ensure that there is Cyber Security.

Perhaps the biggest revelation and probably the most satisfying for a lot of the people in attendance and those who watched the live stream on Facebook was the revelation by Michael Mensah, the Head of ICT at the Bank of Ghana (BoG). In his speech, he said that the Bank of Ghana will soon require financial institutions in the country to publish their cybersecurity policies.
Mr Mensah further hinted that a bill is expected to be passed by parliament soon and this will ultimately will help banks to “achieve both business and security-focused objectives as well as regulatory compliance in an efficient and effective way.”
At the end of the summit, one thing was clear – there was the need to tackle cyber threats collectively, and as such all players in the cybersecurity space needs to come together to create viable solutions. Like Archie Hesse, the CEO of GhIPPS rightly put it: “Coming together to work on Cyber Security for the industry is something we should aim for.”

Design
The most noticeable feature of the front panel is the 13MP selfie camera which is located at the top. There is also the speaker for calls. About the front camera, it uses a display flash for taking selfies in dark environments.
There are also very well lit Capacitive navigation buttons which are located on the lower side of the front panel, Between them is the home button that doubles as the fingerprint scanner.
At the top of the Nokia 8, there is the good old and forever satisfying 3.5mm audio jack. No need for extra apparatus to listen to your music. Very satisfying!
On the right side of the phone, there are the volume keys and the power button. The power button is conveniently placed below the volume button to allow easy access.

General Usage
For the most part of today, I have been using the Nokia 8. It’s wonderful how a new phone in my hands does not feel alien to me. Like the Nokia we have known, the phone is built with the user in mind.
Maybe I would have loved for the fingerprint sensor to be at the back of the phone, but it only took a few tries for me to get used to having it on the home button.
The phone weighs just 160g and coupled with its design, it doesn’t feel like there is a 5.3″ screen sized phone in your hands. Every time I held the phone, it felt light, yet sturdy and smooth, therefore providing me with an easy to use experience.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are available on the Nigerian Market. The S9 is selling for 260,000 Nigerian Naira while the premium end Galaxy S9+ is selling 302,400 Nigerian Naira.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are now official as the company showcased the two new phones in Barcelona, ahead of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. Samsung’s new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will compete against the iPhone X and Google Pixel 2 series. With these new phones, the focus is on the camera. Samsung has not tinkered much with the design of the Galaxy S9 series, though it has reduced the bezels even further on the new phones.
The big change though is the Galaxy S9’s camera with Samsung introducing a super-slow-motion video option, and new dual-aperture feature to ensure the best low-light performance. Samsung has also gone with the Apple approach and limited the dual-rear camera feature to the bigger Galaxy S9+ variant rather than introducing it on both phones.
What’s new on Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+
Animoji, Dual Speakers, New Position for the Fingerprint Sensor
The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will also come with a new AR Emoji feature, which is the company’s own take on Animoji seen in iPhone X and Bitmoji, a well-known app. Samsung’s AR Animoji will scan the user’s face and create a cartoon version of them, which can then be shared on SMS, third-party apps like WhatsApp, etc. There will be 18 different expressions that a user can send, says Samsung. AR Animoji will let users customise the skin tone, clothes, etc of their character as well.
The Galaxy S9 will also come with dual-stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos surround sound capabilities to offer a much more immersive audio experience. The Galaxy S9 series continues with a 3.5-mm headphone jack as well and are IP68 water and dust-resistant. Samsung has also shifted the fingerprint scanner below the camera module and the face and iris scan feature is also present on both phones.
The Galaxy S9 and S9+ come with better cameras
For the camera, the Galaxy S9 comes with dual aperture feature, which is f/1.5 and f/2.4 for low light and daylight performance. Samsung says this technology allows for 28 percent more light to enter the sensor compared to the Galaxy S8 series. However, there is no ‘Bokeh’ style feature on the smaller Galaxy S9. In contrast, the Galaxy S9+ has dual cameras on the back with dual OIS and allows for the ‘Bokeh’ feature.
Samsung Galaxy S9+ camera is 12MP +12MP with dual OIS on the back. The wide-angle 12MP sensor has F/1.5 and F/2.4 aperture while the telephoto lens is also 12MP with f/2.4 aperture. The front camera on both phones is 8MP with f/1.7 aperture. Both Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will support super slow mode at 960 frames per second. When it comes to the slow motion feature, Samsung will automatically detect motion and alert user when the slow motion aspect has been recorded. Users will then have the option of adding background music to their slo-mo videos or they can convert them into GIFs for easy sharing. These videos can also be set as wallpaper on the Galaxy S9.

Battery on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+
For the battery, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ continue with the same size as the previous S8, which is 3000 mAh and 3500 mAh respectively. The new phones are powered by Android 8.0 Oreo with TouchWiz UI on top. Samsung has also introduced some new features to the Bixby camera. This is Samsung’s own virtual assistant. Bixby will now support live translation via the camera. A user can just point the camera to a sign or text written in a different language and it will be translated to whichever one they prefer. The Bixby camera can also be used to now point at food and it will tell how many calories are there in a particular item.
Samsung is also continuing with the DeX pad for the Galaxy S9 series and has introduced a new one for the flagship phones. This allows for a desktop-like experience from the Galaxy S9 by plugging it to the DeX pad and connecting it to a desktop monitor. Samsung will support Full HD and 2K monitors as well.

On the specifications front, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be powered by the Exynos 9810 octa-core processor in international markets, which includes Ghana. In the US, the phones will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor. The RAM/Storage specifications for Galaxy S9 are 4GB RAM with 64GB/128GB/256GB, while Galaxy S9+ has the following specifications 6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB. Here in Ghana, there are a lot of websites running WordPress, and a lot more blogs on the platform. This means there are a lot of individuals in Ghana who use WordPress either professionally or as hobbyists.
1st Ever WordPress Meetup in Ghana
Despite the large-scale use of the most popular Content Management System in the world, there does not seem to be any community of WordPress Lovers. In this regards, it has become necessary to hold the first ever WordPress Meetup in the country, with the aim of getting more WordPress lovers, to organise more of such events, network, and share ideas.
How to Get There
The Meetup will take place at Vida e Caffe, East Legon. The easiest and most recommended way to get there for first timers is via Uber, Taxify, Uru or any other ridesharing applications available to you.
If you are driving, use Google Maps navigation to the place.
For people who would want to use “Trotro”, you should alight at Shashie, then walk to the Shiashie Taxi Rank. There are Taxis loading towards the area.
Please note that Vida e Cafe, East Legon is just a 30 seconds walk along the Boundary Road from Starbites. This could help those who would come with a traditional taxi.

Introductions
First, we take a few minutes to get introduced. We will be sharing our names, business name(s), and our interest in WordPress. If you have business cards, you can pass them out.
Open Questions and Answers
This is your chance to ask your burning questions about WordPress or to tell the group your WordPress experience. Total newbie questions are welcome, and so are difficult developer questions. If the answer is too complicated, someone will volunteer to talk to you after the meeting. We are expecting a lot of smart people in this group who are happy to help out.
Main Program (Moderator Led Discussion)
This should last for 45 minutes, including questions, which you can ask at any time. We will be discussing why there has not been any strong WordPress communities. We will need to deliberate and find out how to organise subsequent meetups and make them successful. There will be a call for volunteers, who would want to join the organisation of the meetup.
After this, there is the formal conclusion of the meetup.
Open Networking
Unless Vida e Caffe is closing (which is definitely going to happen at 7:00 pm), everyone is welcomed to hang out and talk or do some impromptu problem-solving after the formal conclusion of the Meetup.
