    Calling MTN customer service is sometimes hectic. You put a call through the whole day and you will not be attended to which may have to force you to go to their physical store yourself making you to waste your money on transportation.

    If you are lucky and your call gets answered, you may be unluckily get someone who does not even know how to answer or solve your problems for you.

    Imagine needing Internet for something important and then your Internet gets disrupted but no customer agent to instantly solve your problem.

    2. There are other alternatives that offers less cost and fast Internet connection

    There is competition everywhere good and there is no exception when it comes to Internet data. Other networks also has the same services with lower data bundle offers compared to that of MTN which may give you headache on which one to go for.

    MTN has increased their internet packages by 30% which means that customers are paying more for less. The company is also looking to charge out of country subscribers an additional 20% which would mean that users would pay 60% more for the same service.

    4. The services are now limited to large scale users

    The turbonet when it first came into existence was sold to anyone. But currently, due to high demands, if you are to go for the turbonet, you will be asked several questions and if you are not someone who has a large internet usage, you will be denied purchase.

    5. Delay in restock making used ones overpriced and causing fraudulent activities

    When the MTN turbonets are out of stock, restocking becomes another issue which takes alot of time. This makes home used users over price theirs and if care is not taken, buyers ends up buying fake ones and losing their precious money.

    The MTN turbonet works with only MTN sim which makes users to be forced to always buy MTN data which makes it not interesting to use. If it should come as a universal turbonet, it would have been great to switch to other network sim whenever the MTN network is slow.

    The MTN turbonets are currently out of stock but I’m sure it will become available soon. In the meantime, I think that there are other alternatives on the market that will suit your needs just as well if not better.

    Many people whose SIM Cards are blocked seem to be questioning what exactly happens to their Mobile Money account and balance.

    If you have not registered your MTN Sim Card, you most likely have had your SIM blocked, and your calls, SMS, etc., are not working. You can not access MTN Ghana’s services due to the blocking.

    The recent blocking of SIM cards has led many to ask if their Mobile Money balance will be secure, especially those outside Ghana who cannot register their SIM Cards, even with the SIM registration app.

    Most of these people do not have Ghana Card, so there is no way for them to do the registration.

    What happens to your mobile money account when your SIM is blocked?

    Unlike a dormant mobile money account, we can say that when MTN blocks your SIM due to failure to register, your money will remain intact in the account. Some people with blocked SIMS can still dial *170# and access their Mobile Money.

    However, it will be prudent to register as soon as possible or immediately transfer your funds or withdraw them.

    It will continue to be more frustrating if you have not registered your SIM card; hence it’s best to do so if you can.

    For those outside the country, MTN has an online portal for registration (if you have a Ghana Card). That could be utilized as well.

    Many Ghanaians have reported that they cannot make phone calls simply because their numbers have been blocked or barred from making calls. We explore the solutions available to enable such people to continue to enjoy call and data services.

    If you have no network at all, you can just restart your phone and you should be able to receive phone calls.

    First, this has to do with the ongoing SIM Registration exercise and is unrelated to phone settings or network problems.

    If you cannot make phone calls because it does not connect or says “call barred,” your Network Provider, e.g., MTN, could have disabled your SIM from making calls. Some people could still receive calls and use data services when this happens.

    This morning, 9th September 2022, a lot more people are complaining that their SIM cards are even now unable to connect to the internet. If you are one of such people with a blocked SIM, you most likely can not do the following:

    • Make and receive phone calls ( Update: Phone calls seem to come through now)
    • Send and receive SMS
    • Access Mobile Money and other USSD functions
    • Use Mobile Data

    There are a few things you can do to unblock your SIM. MTN and the other Telcos will likely restore the SIM Cards and later block them again. But the best thing would be to make sure that it doesn’t happen to you again.

    Here are steps you can take to unblock your Ghana SIM Card

    Re-register your SIM Card with your Ghana Card

    Registering your SIM Card is the most obvious solution. If you have not done the first part of the registration, now that your SIM Card is blocked, you will not be able to do it.

    You can follow the registration steps when available to register your SIM Card fully. You can also try using the SIM Registration app, although it has not worked correctly for me since it launched.

    Visit the Telco Office

    There is some group of people who have successfully gone through the registration process but still have their calls barred. All those who have registered but still had their SIM cards blocked will have to visit their Telco’s office to solve the problem.

    Conclusion

    The blocking or call barring resulting from telcos blocking can only be solved if the Telcos and the NCA “relax” for those who are yet to register their SIM cards.
